Let me introduce myself. My name is “I’m Devil”, but you can call me Devil for short. You know I had an inkling all along that God was up to something. Angels don’t appear to virgins every day, not to mention all that hullabaloo in Bethlehem – Shepherds, wise men and Angel’s choirs – very odd indeed. And then that time when He stayed behind in the Temple scaring His parents half to death. All that talk at 12 years of age being in His Father’s House. Adolescents can be so infuriating. So far so good – at least for God. But I was waiting and then it came. First the Baptism in the Jordan, then led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness. Well, I had Jesus just where I wanted Him. For forty days, Jesus ate nothing. Can you imagine! So I tried the hungry angle – turned stones into bread. He looked me right in the eye and reminded me as Moses once did: “Man does not live on bread alone”. I caught on – the issue wasn’t bread at all. It was reliance upon God to sustain and provide. Next, I tried something more subtle – power. Oh, many of you fall for it. I led Him to a summit, an endless view. Would He worship me if I handed all this over to Him. Do you know what He said? “It is written, worship the Lord your God and serve only Him”. I forgot about all those commandments. Shot down twice, so I took Him to the pinnacle of the Temple quoting scripture, that Angels would protect Him should He hurl Himself down. Defeat again – He answered: “It is said, do not put the Lord your God to the test”. I had to go away with my tail between my legs, three times defeated. But I’ll be back, our paths will cross again. I’ll nail Him yet – Ah – “cross”, “nail” – now there’s an idea. Watch this space…..) And for God sake watch that the Devil doesn’t dishearten you these Lenten days. Since Ash Wednesday, we are flying after such a prayerful start to this joyous Season. Let’s keep it going this week. OUR JOYFUL SEASON OF LENT IS GOING EXCELLENTLY: Very many thanks to all who are putting in that extra effort in celebrating Lent 2016. We have just had beautiful, grace filled days to start our 40 days. I must confess I have found the last number of days most uplifting – thank you for your prayerful presence and fantastic support. As I said last week, this joyful season of Lent presents with many delightful choices. So for this coming week our Lenten choices are as follows: MOYVANE KNOCKANURE Mon 10.00am Lenten Mass with Reflection Mon 7.45pm Lenten Mass with Reflection Tues 10.00am Stations of the Cross -led by Tues 7.30pm Lenten Mass Fr.
