Amongst the many miracles and interventions attributed to Our Lady of the Rosary, the following three stand out in modern times. In the life of Patrick J. Peyton C.S.C., by Fr. Richard Gribble C.S.C., two stories concerning the Irish priest, Fr. Patrick Peyton now Venerable Patrick Peyton are recorded. The first concerns a threatened communist takeover of Brazil in 1964. Fr. Peyton decided to organise a Rosary Rally in the capital Rio de Janiero. Two million people attended and prayed the Rosary which resulted in a peaceful overthrow of the Communist Government. The Rosary Rally was recognised by Church and State as bringing about the victory. Again on December 8th 1985, Fr. Peyton organised a Rosary Rally in Manila in the Philippines in response to President Marcos’ refusal to step down following his defeat in a Presidential election. Two million came onto the streets and prayed the Rosary. Shortly afterwards Marcos stepped down. Fr. Peyton said the success was due to the power engendered by the Rosary. After the second World War, Austria was taken over by Communist Russia. An Austrian priest Fr. Petros went up and down the country asking people to pray the Rosary every day to save Austria. Only 1 in 10 agreed to sign a pledge to do this. However, on 13th May 1955, the Feast day of our Lady of Fatima, the Russian army suddenly withdrew peacefully from Austria. Many people couldn’t understand why as the Russians had never left Hungary, Poland, Yugoslavia and other Eastern European countries. However, Chancellor Raab in a Radio broadcast declared that it was the 1 in 10 people praying the Rosary that saved Austria. Our lady works these miracles not just to solve critical situations but to remind us of the power of Her “weapon” of the Rosary and to spur us on to do as she asked of Her six visits to Fatima “pray the Rosary every day”. ROSARY ON THE COAST: will take place on Ballybunion beach on October 7th at 2.30pm. Join tens of thousands of faithful on the coasts of Ireland to pray the Rosary on the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary as we pray for faith and life through Our Lady’s intercession. And it costs nothing. Encouragement really does make a difference. It is something everyone can give. It brings out the best in people. Nine tenths of education is encouragement. To encourage is to build up, respect, inspire and strengthen a person. Correction does much, but encouragement does more. Everyone who receives encouragement – young or old, successful or less-than-successful, unknown or famous – is changed by it. Plant words of encouragement everywhere you go today and watch what happens. Have you ever noticed how someone with shoulders bent, head drooped and eyes dull from disillusionment, pain or discouragement, will react when given a few kind words of encouragement? Your tongue is the strongest muscle in the human body; use yours to lift someone up today. Encouragement from any source is like a shower of rain upon a parched desert. It gives life. It refreshes. It energises. Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticise me and I may not like you. Encourage me and I will not forget you. God is never a God of discouragement. When you have a discouraging thought in your mind, you can be sure it is not from God. God never brings discouragement. Encouragement and words of kindness are gifts you can give that are priceless. Pause for a moment and think of one practical way you can encourage someone today. Focus on one person and say something that will make her/him feel important, a compliment, a word of praise, an uplifting comment. Wherever you go always leave a legacy of encouragement after you. “Whatever you did for one of these the least of my sisters and brothers you did for me.” (Mt. 25:40) ONE INTERVIEW WE’D ALL LIKE TO PASS I had to smile at this story I read – five times! A Hotel chain interviewed five thousand people for five hundred jobs. The interviews quickly cut that number down to size. They’d been told to reject people that didn’t smile at least four times during the interview. Hospitality may be a business, but it should also be a way of life. Now, that’s surely one interview we’d all like to pass with flying colours! DO IT AGAIN WITH LOVE…….. I heard recently of a lovely Catholic Church in the States who were celebrating their 50th Anniversary with a reunion between past and present Parishioners and Clergy. One man was a millionaire and he told the assembled congregation of an incident in his childhood. He had earned his first dollar for some small job and was considering all the different ways he might use it. He was at a Parish Mission and heard the mighty Missionary speak about how every single dollar made such a fantastic difference to young and old in the Mission fields. They boy had to decide whether to give up his precious dollar or not. “The Lord won”, said the man proudly, “and I am convinced that the reason God has blessed me so much is that when I was a boy I gave God that day everything I had”. Everyone in the Church was most impressed by the story until an old lady and very dedicated parishioner stood up. “And I dare you to do it again!” The Parish Priest very quickly defused the situation and said “You are all invited to tea and refreshments in the Hall next door”. When does one stop! NOTICES KNOCKANURE PARENTS ASSOCIATION: Would like to thank all who contributed to their recent Church Gate collection. Your support is greatly appreciated. TIDY TOWNS: results announced last week saw Moyvane increase its score by 6 marks to 293. Congratulations to all those involved in helping to achieve this result: Staff & Students of Murhur National School, Village and Parish Residents, Housing Development Committees, the local Business Community, members of RSS and Solas, Moyvane Development Association members. Special thanks to all who took part in the clean ups over the summer, to individuals who maintained their own areas and to those who took part in the clean-up of the approach roads and village during the Spring clean-up month of April. A special word of thanks to all those who helped with planting of flower planters and beds in May and to all the individuals who watered the beds and planters over the past number of months. It would be impossible to continue to increase the Tidy Town marks without your continued support and help. Well Done to Everyone! Full Tidy Towns results can be viewed on www.tidytowns.ie. Also Congratulations to Listowel Tidy Towns Group on their great win. PASSION FOR MISSION: EMBRACING THE POSSIBLE IN TIMES OF CONFLICT: The Diocese of Kerry celebrates Mission Month with a public talk presented by Fr. Niall Geaney and Sr. Orla Treacy. Fr. Niall is a Kiltegan priest now working in Tralee. Sr. Orla received the Hugh O’Flaherty International Humanitarian Award last year in recognition for her work in South Sudan. Interested in volunteering abroad? The VMM and OLA mission outreach teams will be on hand to discuss practicalities and supports. Takes place on Thursday 18th October at 8pm in St. John’s Pastoral Centre, Tralee. Everyone welcome. .
