I don’t think that it is any great surprise that one of the great poets, William Wordsworth, should be so moved by the beauty of a field of daffodils. In fact they inspired him to pen those famous words: “And then my heart with pleasure fills, and dances with the daffodils” I defy anyone to look on a mass display of lovely golden blooms and not feel uplifted. It is not only their magnificence, of course, it is above all the joyous sign that is now Spring, with Easter fast approaching and all its warm blessings just around the corner. God bless you, kind and noble daffodil, for your message of hope. You are not the most practical of plants – you cannot be eaten, you have next to no scent and your stems are brittle, but what does all that matter? You give us such joy, such a sense of wonder, just looking at you. If you don’t believe me just stop and look at daffodils where they are sprouting delightfully at present. In spite of the awful recent bad and difficult weather, the daffodils remain focused to their task in hand. They give all of us such hope. Is it any wonder that Conquer Cancer have daffodils in abundance. Our prayerful blessings and good wishes to all who are living with cancer. Thank you for the gift of hope you share with us. Thank God for daffodils and their message of hope. Thank God, too, for all the hope-filled people we encounter. TRANSFIGURATION – A PEAK EXPERIENCE As Lent progresses, the shadow of the cross begins to loom. Even though the Gospel this weekend narrates the account of the transfiguration of Jesus in glory, it is in the light of His death and resurrection that this scene is to be viewed. On Mount Tabor Christ’s disciples got a glimpse of the glory that was His as the Son of God the Father. Here we get a glimpse of our own glory, for we too are children of God the Father. This should fill us with hope and meaning. Martin Luther King tells how he had his own Tabor. In the height of the struggle for civil rights for black people, one night he suddenly reached rock bottom. He felt he could not go on. He was tired of the insults and injuries. In this state of exhaustion and despair, he threw himself on his knees before God and prayed: “LORD, I HAVE TAKEN A STAND FOR WHAT I BELIEVE IS RIGHT. BUT NOW I AM AFRAID THE PEOPLE ARE LOOKING TO ME FOR LEADERSHIP. IF I STAND BEFORE THEM WITHOUT STRENGTH AND COURAGE, THEY TOO WILL FALTER. BUT I AM AT THE END OF MY POWERS, I HAVE NOTHING LEFT. I’VE COME TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN’T FACE IT ALONE” He says that at that moment, he experienced the presence of God in a way he had never experienced it before. On the strength of that experience, he was able to continue to struggle and remain faithful to the task at hand CONFIRMATION Blessings and congratulations to our 38 young parishioners who were Confirmed on Friday at 11am.
