ABC’S ‘THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY’ FILM SERIES RETURNS FOR THREE TUESDAY NIGHTS, BEGINNING JAN. 5 AT 8/9c ABC is ringing in the new year with more Disney magic moments at home thanks to the return of “The Wonderful World of Disney” film series on Tuesday nights in January. For three weeks ABC will air the broadcast premieres of iconic titles currently available to stream on Disney+ including Academy Award® nominees Disney’s “The Lion King” (2019), Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and Disney’s “Cinderella” (2015). Presenting these iconic films, listed below, on ABC is one of many ways The Walt Disney Company is bringing the magic of Disney into homes right now. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The Wonderful World of Disney: Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Tuesday, Jan. 12 (8:00- 11:00 p.m. EST) After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America (Chris Evans), living quietly in Washington, D.C., and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon (Anthony Mackie). As reported by Deadline, Mackie has closed the deal to star in Captain America 4. According to previous reports, the Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman will be writing the script for Captain America 4 alongside the show’s staff writer Dalan Musson. Details regarding the rest of the cast, director, and plot of the movie are kept under the wraps. It would be interesting to see how the events in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier affect the story of Captain America 4. With John Walker’s U.S. Agent and Sharon Carter being the Powerbroker, fans can expect some great storylines in the next Captain America movie. It’s currently unclear whether Sebastian Stan will be reprising the role of Bucky Barnes for Captain America 4. MCU boss Kevin Feige recently shared an update on the Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2. Feige revealed that the studio doesn’t really have any plans for future seasons yet, but he confirmed that the team behind the show has some ideas. The telling of that period comes to the screen in the feature Detroit, directed by Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow. Well, largely the same way it did in 1994. This time the movie studio is using photorealistic computer-generated imagery (CGI). Jon Favreau's remake of "The Lion King" (in theaters since July 19) brings Simba, Nala, Scar and the whole pride back to the big screen with new voice talent but much of the original plot intact. Fans of the animated classic get those moments they love: Simba's sneeze, the cub's presentation to the kingdom, Timon and Pumbaa's vulture-kicking entrance. Even much of the dialogue is identical to that of the 25-year-old movie. But there are some changes that add a half-hour of running time to the story. Here are a few notable updates, aside from the obvious fact that the animals no longer look like cartoons. Be prepared for a different version of Scar's sinister song, and for new Beyoncé music. This time, Scar (Chiwetel Ejiofor) doesn't so much croon "Be Prepared" as deliver his signature song like a dark, militaristic monologue.
