Ars Nova operates on the unceded land of the Lenape peoples on the island of Manhahtaan (Mannahatta) in Lenapehoking, the Lenape Homeland. We acknowledge the brutal history of this stolen land and the displacement and dispossession of its Indigenous people. We also acknowledge that after there were stolen lands, there were stolen people. We honor the generations of displaced and enslaved people that built, and continue to build, the country that we occupy today. We gathered together in virtual space to watch this performance. We encourage you to consider the legacies of colonization embedded within the technology and structures we use and to acknowledge its disproportionate impact on communities of color and Indigenous peoples worldwide. We invite you to join us in acknowledging all of this as well as our shared responsibility: to consider our way forward in reconciliation, decolonization, anti-racism and allyship. We commit ourselves to the daily practice of pursuing this work. ABOUT THE ARTISTS ISAAC OLIVER is an award-winning playwright, author and performer. His debut collection of essays, Intimacy Idiot, was named one of NPR’s Best Books of 2015, and has been released in hardcover, paperback, e-book and audiobook. He is an artist in residence at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater, where he performs evenings of sit-down comedy, and has been releasing a new monthly work-in-progress essay series titled Where Can I Go on Joe’s Pub’s YouTube channel. Additionally, he’s written for The New York Times, HBO’s High Maintenance and Netflix’s GLOW. @mrisaacoliver JOHN BEHLMANN was last seen on a live stage as Max Van Horn in the Broadway musical Tootsie, for which he received an Outer Critics Circle nomination. His other Broadway credits include Significant Other and Journey’s End. Off-Broadway he’s performed at Roundabout, MTC, MCC, in The 39 Steps at New World Stages and, of course, at Ars Nova. On TV, John is best known as the double-crossing FBI Agent Adams on Riverdale, and was last seen on film in the Billy Crystal/Ben Schwartz filmStanding Up, Falling Down. He also does trapeze, takes photographs and voices several video game characters including Mathis Shaw in the World of Warcraft universe. John has been appearing intermittently onstage with Isaac Oliver since 2012, back when things still seemed nice. They even once stood together in a small room with Barack Obama! Now look at them. @johnbehlmann THE BENGSONS (ABIGAIL & SHAUN BENGSON) are a married composing and performing duo. Their theater work includes The Keep Going Song (Actors Theatre of Louisville), Hundred Days (La Jolla Playhouse, New York Theatre Workshop, The Public Theater, Know Theater, Z Space, US Tour), The Lucky Ones (Ars Nova), Sundown, Yellow Moon (Ars Nova/WP), Where the Mountain Meets the Sea (ATL’s Humana Festival), Anything That Gives Off Light (Edinburgh Theatre Festival, US Tour), Hurricane Diane (New York Theatre Workshop, Two River Theatre), You’ll Still Call Me By Name (New York Live Arts, Jacob's Pillow), The Place We Built (The Flea) and Iphigenia in Aulis (Classic Stage Company). Their music has been featured on So You Think You Can Dance (FOX). They have received the Jonathan Larson and Richard Rogers awards and nominations for the Drama Desk, Drama League and Lucile Lortel awards. Abigail Bengson has appeared on High Maintenance (HBO) and toured as a member of tUnE-YaRds, including an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. @thebengsons JOHN DELUCA is thrilled to be performing shirtless for Isaac. Again. Other shirtless performances for Isaac include Intimacy Idiot at the Rockwell in Los Angeles and a workshop for his play Electra In A One-Piece at the Fordham University blackbox theater. When John isn’t performing shirtless for Isaac he can sometimes be seen on TV and in films in varying degrees of dress/undress. @johnny_deluca ABOUT THE ARTISTS AMANDA DUARTE has worked steadily as an actress on British TV since the early- to mid-2000s in hit shows such as Peep Show and Broadchurch. In 2017 she was tapped to play Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix’s The Crown for the third and fourth seasons, and the following year she delivered an Academy Award-winning performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite. She is a devoted fan of Mr. Oliver’s and is delighted to be included in this holiday programme. @agitatedinxenon (Instagram) / @duarteamanda (Twitter) NAOMI EKPERIGIN is an actor, comedian and writer with her own Comedy Central Half Hour special. She’s performed on HBO’s 2 Dope Queens and Late Night with Seth Meyers, and she can most recently be seen in Mythic Quest on Apple TV. She also co-hosts the comedy podcast Couples Therapy. @blacktresscomedy (Instagram) / @blacktress (Twitter) CELISSE HENDERSON is a singer, songwriter, multi- instrumentalist, performer and spoken word artist. Her deep and varied career has seen her in concert at venues ranging from the Beacon Theater supporting Mariah Carey, Town Hall supporting Graham Nash, Madison Square Garden supporting Kesha at the 60th annual Grammy Awards, The Greek Theater in Trey Anastasio’s Ghosts of the Forest and the Apollo Theater with Melissa Etheridge; as well starring in the recent revival of Godspell at Circle in the Square Theater, singing in Bridget Everett’s Rock Bottom at Joe’s Pub at The Public; and appearing on television in 30 Rock, The Electric Company, Rescue Me, The Big C, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as a special guest of Jon Batiste and Stay Human, and most recently playing lead guitar with Lizzo on SNL. But it’s her prodigious talents as a singer-songwriter and musician that have defined Celisse the most as an artist. Her original music, powered by her soulful voice, is hard-rocking and blues-tinged with infectious hooks that stay with you. @CelisseMusic THE GAY AGENDA (NICHOLAS WILLIAMS & MICAH BUCEY) is your semi-favorite two-man musical- theater-power-pop band. Since December 2007, they've spread the gospel of showtunes to most of New York City's smallish theaters, weirdest churches and seediest watering holes. DANIEL LOESER has taken a break from all creative pursuits because, well, fuck it, and is happily selling motorcycle gear in Red Hook, Brooklyn. This show remains one of his most favorite things of the holiday season and he is forever grateful to Isaac and Jason for including him, distanced or otherwise, and for their friendship. Hang in there, folks. Things are gonna get worse, but eventually they will get so much better. @lowjur (Instagram) / @danielloeser (Twitter) ARS NOVA 2020 BOARD OF DIRECTORS TEAM JENNY STEINGART JASON EAGAN JASON P.
