Everyone should get a leaflet through their door. When requested, volunteers will make contact with nominated people in isolation, with consent, and provide a friendly voice and offers of practical support. Volunteers will be able to get groceries from Coop, and other shops, and organise for these groceries to be delivered and paid for etc, by a very small and dedicated team, utilising stringent hygiene techniques. When requested, medication can be collected from your dispensing medical practice or Islay Pharmacy. Frequent contact will be kept with those in isolation to ensure mental and physical wellbeing, by phone and other electronic means. If you need volunteer help – please contact your area co-ordinator from the list below If you wish to volunteer - please contact your area co-ordinator and instructions will be given. Openness, transparency and goodwill are essential for the group to achieve its aims and to reassure the community that everyone is working safely together in this extraordinary time. It was agreed that a balance needs to be struck between the challenges of dealing with the fears that some islanders have about the opening up of Islay and the requirements for businesses to begin operating again. ICRG will be a conduit for the transition of the community from resilience to economic, social and cultural recovery. And will work in accordance with the Scottish Government’s guidelines for the phased easing of lockdown. The group is exploring the installation of clear signage across the island reminding everyone of the requirements of social distancing, wearing face coverings and hand sanitizing. In order to represent a wide cross-section of the community, a variety of people were invited by the Community Council to join – from the churches, estates, distilleries, tourism, farming and the health service. Islay Resilience Group, Islay Development Initiative, South Islay Development and the Emergency Planning Group are all represented too.
