We wish to extend a heartfelt donated by Dianne B. Bernhard welcome to everyone attending the Thirteenth Biennial IAPS Convention!

Hotel Albuquerque, situated in historic Albuquerque, N.M., finds us again gathered to celebrate all things pastel. With world-class instructional presentations, exhibitions featuring the very best of pastel painting from around the world, and the largest concentration of pastel suppliers to be found under one roof, IAPS strives to advocate for the advancement of pastel as a fine art medium.

While beginning to work on the details for this convention, which began in earnest the day after the 2017 convention concluded, I wanted to have a theme. Like me, you probably start a painting with a concept in place for motivation. For the 2019 convention, the theme has been a focus on the word “International,” as noted in our name. As pastel continues to grow in global popularity, we continue to strengthen our mission of fostering a support system for member societies around the world by forming an International Advisory Team. Currently, Asia, Australia, Canada and France are represented, with others in development. Their contributions will continue to strengthen an understanding of cultural diversity and support the validity of pastel as a fine art medium for years to come. At this convention, we are honored to welcome numerous international participants. Several are returning familiar faces, and many are first-time attendees. Be sure to introduce yourself and say hello.

IAPS is a strong association because of the volunteerism of so many people who tirelessly give the gift of their expertise and OVER time. From the Board of Governors and Officers to the committee chairs and members, as well as the numerous individuals who volunteer to help throughout the convention, a huge debt of gratitude is owed. We are also fortunate to have Sue “Red” $40,000 Weber as our executive director and Susan Webster as our convention director. They continue to provide the glue necessary to keep the association and convention on track. Please take the time to thank them when you have the opportunity.

Pastel in awards As we so fondly say, “The IAPS Convention is like a large pastel family reunion.” All of you are part of that artistic family, Society of and I want to personally thank you for attending and adding your voice to the exchange of ideas and experiences that make each convention better than the last. As Alberta “Bert” Collins, a dear, legendary pastel friend of mine, likes to say, “Who america has more fun than us?” To that I say, “No One!”
