The article reports new data on the occurrence of three species of apothecial ascomycetes of the Pyronemataceae family collected in the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve. Aleurina subvirescens and Smardaea purpurea were found in Ukraine for the first time, Ramsbottomia asperior was previ- ously found by us also at other localities in Ukraine, including the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, but without any details and illustrations. For each species a description of the Ukrainian specimens, col- lection data, macro- and micrographs are provided here. In addition to morphological characters, ecological characteristics and data on the general distribution of these species are briefly discussed. Chaetothiersia Vernalis, a New Genus and Species of Pyronemataceae (Ascomycota, Pezizales) from California

(2008). Chaetothiersia vernalis, a new genus and species of Pyronemataceae (Ascomycota, Pezizales) from California. Fungal Diversity 28: 65-72. Chaetothiersia vernalis, collected from the northern High Sierra Nevada of California, is described as a new genus and species. This fungus is characterized by stiff, superficial, brown excipular hairs, smooth, eguttulate ascospores, and a thin ectal excipulum composed of globose to angular-globose cells. Phylogenetic analyses of nLSU rDNA sequence data support the recognition of Chaetothiersia as a distinct genus, and suggest a close relationship to the genus Paratrichophaea. MSA AWARDS 2019 MYCOLOGICAL SOCIETY DISTINCTIONS Distinguished Mycologist Awards: Donald H. Pfister The Distinguished Mycologist Award is one of the highest awards bestowed by the MSA, and it is designed to recognize individuals that have a truly distinguished career in the field of mycology in terms of either research or service. Donald H. Pfister Dr. Donald H. Pfister received his BA degree in Botany from Miami University in 1967. Soon afterwards he moved to the lab of Dr. Richard Korf at Cornell University to study the systematics and taxonomy of discomycetes. He received his PhD from Cornell in 1971. Immediately upon completing his degree, Don was hired as an assistant professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. In 1974 he moved to Harvard University where he was hired as an Assistant Professor in Biology and also became the Assistant Curator of the Farlow Herbarium of Cryptogamic Botany. Don received tenure at Harvard in 1980. In addition to serving as a professor and curator for the Farlow Herbarium, he has also served in a number of other important positions at Harvard over the years, including Dean of Kirkland House, Director of the Harvard University Herbaria, Dean of the Harvard Summer School, and Interim Dean for Harvard College. It is worth noting here that Don was popular enough as the Interim Dean for Harvard College that the students even started a Facebook fan page that was dedicated to him (https://www.facebook.com/pfisterpfans). Don has been a true student of the Ascomycota throughout his career and he knows the discomycete fungi like few others. -

Short descriptions and photographs of the taxa are provided. Key words —Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, biodiversity, macrofungi Introduction Geopyxis carbonaria (Pyronemataceae) is an abundant post-fire discomycete in coniferous forests. This fleshy mushroom has a complex life cycle and is mycorrhizal on deep roots of members of the Pinaceae, and fruits only when the trees die (Vrålstad et al. 1998). Since it often fruits prolifically after wildfires, it has also been considered to be a possible indicator of imminent morel fruiting (Obst & Brown 2000). Asterophora lycoperdoides (Lyophyllaceae) is a relatively rare basidiomycete that parasitizes other mushrooms in the family Russulaceae, especially Russula nigricans and Russula densifolia. It usually fruits after the host has blackened and begun to decay (Kuo 2006). The fungus generally reproduces asexually by brown powdery chlamydospores formed on the cap surface; its gills, which are often absent or deformed, produce sexual basidiospores only infrequently (Roody 2003). According to checklists (Sesli & Denchev 2009) and recently published data (Solak et al. 2009, Kaya 2009), neither of the above taxa have previously been recorded from Turkey. The study aims to contribute to the macromycota of Turkey.
