Received: 4 September 2020; Accepted: 11 October 2020; Published: 22 October 2020 Abstract: The reclassification of accommodation for tourism, understood as the change of tourist category or classification in terms of accommodation activity, is put forward as one of the ways to increase competitiveness in any establishment. So, recent regulation on planning, renovation and modernization of Tourism in Canary Islands established the need to increase the classification of the accommodation offering by restoring degraded tourist areas and renovating different public and private infrastructures. Using a case study methodology in this paper, the characteristics of the rehabilitation process undertaken in different touristic establishments of the coast of Gran Canaria, are analyzed, more specifically in Maspalomas-Costa Canaria destination. Comparative analysis of these cases presenting it as a rehabilitation model that allowed it to re-join the market, benefiting from the urban incentives policies through the upgrading strategy, increasing the quality and quantity of the services offered. San Bartolomé de Tirajana is the largest municipality on the island, and the town has transformed from an inhospitable landscape into one of Europe’s most unique tourist destinations, while still managing to maintain its authentic roots. Basking in the constant sunshine, pleasant temperatures, wonderful beaches and the beauty of its mountain peaks is the biggest tourist destination on the island: Maspalomas Costa Canaria. This makes Maspalomas a must-visit spot on Gran Canaria. Here you will find relaxation, sport, adventure, culture and gastronomy, all alongside the sea and the mountains. Unforgettable experiences surrounded by incomparable landscapes in a peaceful, socially stable environment. 5 6 GEOGRAPHY The shape of the island is round with a domed appearance, and it has a dense network of ravines running through it, which descend from the mountain peaks down to the coast, creating a very rugged terrain. This terrain, with its unique features, is conducive to the existence of a small landscape scale and micro-climate scale, separated by just a few kilometres. Landscapes range from smooth sand dunes to jagged mountain cliffs, and from the intense blue sea to bright green pine forests.

  • Top Things to Do in Gran Canaria
"Top Things To Do in Gran Canaria" Gran Canaria boasts of an amazing microcosm, characterized by warm temperatures year-round, gorgeous Atlantic beaches, volcanic landscapes and an aboriginal legacy pre-dating Christ by several centuries. There is so much to discover in Gran Canaria! Créé par: Cityseeker 10 Emplacements marqués Playa del Inglés "Beachside Resort" Possibly one of Gran Canaria's most popular seaside resorts, Playa del Inglés lies along the southern coast of the island between Maspalomas and San Agustín. A swathe of barren land until the 1960s, Playa del Inglés was purpose-built as a resort. By day, the resort's 3-kilometer (1.9-mile) strip of golden sand is the main draw, bathed in sunshine year round, with by Wouter Hagens nudist enclaves alongside more family-friendly corners. Besides water sports, there are also go-karts to steer down serpentine routes and mini golf courses to conquer. For shopping, weekly markets and souvenir stalls jostle for space alongside large malls and designer boutiques. There's a wide variety of restaurants to choose from as well, with fast food to fine dining and everything in between. Interspersed in between are towering, highrise hotels and luxury resorts. As the sun sets, Playa del Inglés sheds its laid-back attitude and embraces the night with ardor. There are nightclubs and bars aplenty, with parties around every corner, the convivial revelry extending well into the wee hours of the morning. For a break from the beach, stroll along the Paseo Costa Canaria along Playa de las Burras to the magnificent dunes of Maspalomas, often referred to as the "mini Sahara" of Gran Canaria.

FEATURE Feature Sacred ground; the Maipés necropolis of north-west Gran Canaria Gran Canaria, like most of the Canary Islands, shows evidence for young basaltic volcanism in the form of cinder cones and valley-hugging lava flows. These landforms were of no particular use to the aboriginal population, nor to the subsequent Spanish settlers, and young lava flows and lava fields are still referred to as ‘malpaís’ (badlands) in the Canary Islands. In north-west Gran Canaria, one such lava flow fills the bottom of a steep-sided valley, which reaches the sea at the present day village of Agaete. The lava flow erupted c. 3030 ± 90 yr BP and displays a total length of ~ 11 km. At its distal end, just outside Agaete, it hosts one of Europe’s largest and most important pre-historic burial sites constructed of volcanic rock: the Maipés necropolis. Over 700 pre-historic tombs (or tumuli) constructed from the aa-type clinker materials have been identified on top of the valley-filling lava flow.
