2013 FLEET CAPTAINS FROM THE COMMODORE After some time off in August, we have the ball rolling again at the Club. From Keelboat Racing Fleet Labor Day to mid-October is usually the best time of the year for sailing at Bob McGinnis Keystone. The water is warm and the temperatures and winds are usually good. 918-629-9308 We did have a little shot of high water, but it is back down. However my yard [email protected] always seems to be high with all that rain. Compliments to the Catalina 25 & 27 group for a wonderful Labor Day brunch. It was really great with a huge turnout. Those guys really know what they are MC Scow doing, and it shows. From the bar to the cooks they really had it down. We also Grant Gerondale had a good turnout for the long distance race. We had a mostly sunny day with [email protected] wind that averaged 8mph. The great thing is we scored 14 boats that finished out 918-241-0675 of 17 that started. We had a few complaints about the slow scoring results, but as PRO, the RC was having a good time too. Maybe someone will develop an app to help us out on that scoring. Congratulations to Grant Gerondale sailing a MC Scow Centerboard Racing Fleet to take the overall win. Harvey Baker won the keelboat class. and Nancy Darrel Daniel Lobo won the Van Dyne Trophy as the first Catalina 22 to finish. 918-865-2719 So on to the Sail For Steve Charity Regatta. What a success. When we started [email protected] to put the thing together we didn't have any great aspirations. Just help out a char - ity, the ALS Patient Services Outreach. Steve Snider had come into contact with this group as an ALS patient. The result is a generous cash donation from the Windycrest members. Over $13,000, twice as much as I had had hoped for. I am Catalina 22 so happy for Steve and Mary, as this really means so much for them to help oth - Dean Kohlwey ers with ALS. Please find a thanks list elsewhere in the Windword for everyone 918-494-3023 who helped with the event. [email protected] MC's are going to sponsor a Cook You Own Steak dinner at the MCSW regatta Mark Westerman on October 5th. Dinner includes live music from the Klondike Five String Band. All 316-393-4419 for only $15 bucks. The catch is you need to sign-up via the reservation page on [email protected] the WSC site. It should be a great evening. Elsewhere in the Windword you'll find a small changed proposed for the by-laws. It has to do with how we run our meetings. I know I am not much on official deco - rum or how to go about it. But I see no harm as long as we can all get our points Fred Morgan across. 918-245-6419 After 3 years at the helm of the Windword, Barbara Montalbano will be stepping [email protected] down as editor. I would like to thank her on behalf of all of us for the great job she had done. She has whipped us all into shape as far as getting our articles in in a timely manner. The flyers are great and she gets our postcards out too. As Barbara +95 Fleet/ steps back we will be searching for a replacement for Windword editor. If you have Skeeter Chilton lots of creativity, a little tech savvy, and some spare time each month to do the job 918-346-9518 justice, the Club could use it. Please consider contributing to the Club as [email protected] Windword editor. Finally, next month is our annual meeting. I'm already looking forward to the brisket dinner that the C-dock created for last year's meeting. Rex Donley, Steve C27/25 Horn, and Ken Brooks did an awesome job last year and are on board to do Mike & Tracy Lang briskets again this year. The nominations for the 2014 Board of Governors are list - 918-242-3855 ed in this Windword. If members wish to submit additional nominations please C27/[email protected] send or email the nomination to me at [email protected] by October 9, 2013. Hope to see you on the water soon, Danny Ziegler Windword Page 4

Windword Editor: VICE COMMODORE’S REPORT Barbara Montalbano Sorry I missed last month's article. I was suffering in Colorado visiting my son 918-664-5373 and trying to figure how to bring dry air back with me to Oklahoma. I'll keep [email protected] working on that. As I promised I made the motion to not allow associate members to go on the slip list and we deferred it until the October meeting. It was met with a spirited Published at: Star Forms, Inc., but respectful debate. FAX (918) 749-0598 I made a motion that we document the need for Robert's Rules of Order into our bylaws for running our meetings. I have served on boards before and found [email protected] it a very useful tool to keep meetings moving and make sure we don't get bogged down. No pun intended. Visit our website at I also made a motion to add the duties of membership under the Vice Commodore's duties in the bylaws so it is formalized. I have found this year to www.windycrest.com be a challenge and I think it helps to have these things in writing. If we want folks to serve in these positions then we have to let them do their job. With a lot of help from Jack we have our dock deal for the board dock to go forward. We will suffer some inconvenience as they will use part of the parking lot to stage materials and such but it will be worth it. Again I apologize to folks like Peggy that I disrupted their sailing this summer. I did not think it would take Classified Ads this long. It won't be the last time I am wrong. Hosted by members of C Dock

Plan to come out to Windycrest for a great barbeque dinner with all the fixins and the Annual Meeting to select our next year's Board of Governors. It will be a fun evening with some home-cooked food!

When: 6:00 pm, Saturday, October 19, 2013

Where: Windycrest Pavillion

Why: To enjoy some great BBQ brisket and select a new Board of Governors for next year

Cost: $7.50 for adults, $3.00 for children 12 and under

The menu for the night will include smoked brisket, coleslaw, baked beans, taboli, potato salad, beer, wine and pop. Come to the Pavillion at 6:00 pm and enjoy peanuts and drinks. Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm with a short Windycrest Annual Meeting at 7:00 and then we will have dessert.

It will be an enjoyable evening so come out and spend an evening with great food and super sailors. Your taste buds will appreciate the opportunity to sample brisket smoked with Oak, Pecan, or Hickory (or try all three). Which one will you enjoy the most?

Make your reservations now so we will be able to have our cooks smoke enough brisket for all to enjoy. Our cooks slow smoke this brisket, so it is super tender and flavorful, for over a day! Good food takes time!

. . . with a splendid lake view and a boat dock and slip?

Why DRIVE to the lake when you can LIVE at the lake? .. . and be in your boat in 5 minutes

“A STEAL at $189,000”

Immediate occupancy.

“A Private Boat Slip comes with it”

“You can live at the lake now for a lot less than you ever thought that you could. For instance in today’s financial market you can get low monthly payments and you can move in and enjoy the view and keep your boat in a secure boat slip just two blocks down the hill in the first cove east. The boat slip is uncovered to accommodate sailboats. Earlier this year the entire dock was restored to Corps of Engineer standards and the slip deepened to a depth of 8 feet. Cruising down the south shore of the Arkansas arm, note the seven houses high up on the bluff opposite Mud Creek and the town of Prue. Our house has a 12’X24’ lower tree shaded deck, the only house with one. Coming from Tulsa on US 64/412, take the Old Keystone Road Exit (Leroy Road) which if 15 miles west of Sand Springs. The two miles north to the lake is well marked with Buckner Real Estate Services-Re/Max Executives real estate signs. For further information, contact Ron Buckner at 918-254-0600 or email at [email protected].”
