Brenda: I had been teaching elementary school for 8 years in Camrose in Alberta, Canada when I thought about applying for a leave of absence. The problem was that I couldn’t think of anything in particular to do with time away from my career. A colleague of mine told me that the town of Kamifurano was looking for a new English teacher. He had actually been a teacher there several years ago. Kamifurano is a special town to Camrose because the two are sister cities. They were twinned in 1985. After finding out all of this information, I applied for the job and a new adventure unfolded. AIC: So are you originally from Camrose? What is your hometown like? Brenda: My hometown is actually Wetaskiwin (sister cities with Ashoro), but I was residing in the city of Camrose before I moved to Hokkaido.
