Seventh Sunday of Easter 24 May 2009 Saint Luke Church, Whitestone, N.Y. From The Pastor - - - This past week Saint Luke conducted its first Parish Mission in many years. The theme for the Mission - Responding to the Spirit in the Soul (Monday) --- in the Church (Tuesday) and in the World (Wednesday) was so effectively preached by Father Bruce Nieli, C.S.P. The Holy Spirit was truly alive and active in the many people who attended the Mission. I wish to thank all those who shared their time and talent to help make the Mission so special a time of grace for our parish. The Mission was a direct result of the undertaking of the Parish Pastoral Council who responded to the expressed desire of many parishioners for increased opportunities of spiritual growth. A subcommittee was formed who deserves so much of the credit for the organization necessary to offer the Mission. Thank you to its members - Barbara Keyes, Anna Filippi, Imma Palmieri and Sister Catherine T. Reilly, O.P. for their dedication and hard work. Thanks is also given to the Folk Group under the direction of Joe and Pat Brintle for providing the music ministry; gratitude to all who provided a delicious selection of cookies, cakes and home made specialities for the refreshments each night under the coordination of Lisa Scardamaglia especially The Disciples in Mission, The Charismatic Prayer Groups: English and Italian and the Lay Carmelite Community. Thank you to the many who attended the Mission. Your presence, participation and many positive comments were the true sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit. Of course I save my most special thanks to Father Niele, C.S.P. for his powerful preaching of God’s Word and willingness to share his faith with us. His presence among us was a blessing which has enriched the parish. Please keep Father and his Paulist Community in your prayers. It is my hope and that of the Parish Pastoral Council to continue to deepen and expand the spiritual enrichment of the parish. In order to do this, however, your help is needed! More of that in the future. God bless! Let us pray for one another COME HOLY SPIRIT --- This coming Tuesday, May 26th the Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated. Rooted in word and sacrament, we grow together as a Eucharistic community inviting all to the Good News of Jesus. Page 3 Live The Gospel...Share the Good News! Thank you for your generous support of the 2009 Annual Catholic Appeal. As of May 12 a total of $81,862.00 has been pledged from 315 donors with $55,339.50 already received toward our parish goal of $93,701.00. Your gift to the Appeal is more important than ever during these difficult economic times as both the diocese and parish try to respond to so many people in need. Thank you to those who made a gift to the Appeal; please consider your gift to the Appeal today! Every gift, no matter how large or small is important to the success of the 2009 Annual Catholic Appeal. Remember: The Annual Catholic Appeal offers a truly meaningful way of expressing our thanks to God for His many gifts to us. WE NEED YOUR HELP --- Recently I sent follow-up letters requesting support of the 2009 Annual Catholic Appeal to all those who so generously supported last year’s Catholic Appeal. Your ongoing support of the Appeal is crucial to its success. We have raised nearly $75,000 toward our parish goal of $93,701.00 from nearly 300 donors. Last year over 600 donors supported the Appeal. While these are difficult economic times for many we have so much to be thankful for in our lives. Your gift to the Appeal can be an act of thanksgiving for the blessings we do have and so often take for granted. Please make your gift today. Working together I am confident we can not only reach our goal - but as in past years go far beyond what is asked of us. To those who have already given a gift - thank you! Let us: Live the Gospel and Share the Good News. Msgr. Tosi ❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁❁ PARISH VOLUNTEER THANK YOU CELEBRATION!!
