Così Mariya Gabriel, commissaria europea per l'innovazione, la ricerca, la cultura, l'istruzione e la gioventù, rispondendo a un’interrogazione scritta sul sostegno al settore culturale degli eurodeputati Maria Spyraki (PPE), Vangelis Meimarakis (PPE), Stelios Kympouropoulos (PPE), Elissavet Vozemberg-Vrionidi (PPE), Manolis Kefalogiannis (PPE), Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou (PPE), Georgios Kyrtsos (PPE), Theodoros Zagorakis (PPE), Alexis Georgoulis (GUE/NGL), Nikos Androulakis (S&D), Eva Kaili (S&D). Gabriel ricorda che la Commissione Ue “sta applicando la massima flessibilità possibile all'attuazione dell'attuale programma Europa Creativa, entro i limiti del quadro giuridico applicabile. Il programma 2021-2027 è rafforzato, con una dotazione complessiva di 2,242 miliardi di euro, e aiuterà i settori culturali e creativi a raggiungere il loro potenziale economico, contribuendo alla crescita sostenibile, all'occupazione e alla coesione sociale”. “Altri strumenti sono stati messi a disposizione dei settori culturali e creativi - spiega la commissaria europea -, come Horizon Europe, che intende dedicare un cluster a ‘Cultura, creatività e società inclusiva’, e gli strumenti della politica di coesione dell'UE, con un obiettivo specifico legato a cultura e turismo”. Anche per quanto riguarda l’audiovisivo, la Commissione europea “mira ad aiutare il settore a riprendersi, a trasformare l'industria e a favorire l'innovazione nel comparto. La Commissione Ue - conclude Gabriel - accoglie con favore i programmi nazionali a sostegno del settore culturale e ritiene che i programmi dell'UE possano utilmente completarli”. Brussels, 27 March 2017 Dear Mr. Dijsselbloem, Earlier this week we have known the statements you have made to a communication media, which we consider unequivocally discriminatory and offensive against several EU countries as well as offensive and sexist towards women. Shortly after the publication of your statements, you had the opportunity to rectify at the European Parliament, but you avoided doing so. On the contrary, instead of apologizing, you have said that the problem is that we do not understand the direct style of speech known to Calvinist culture. In our opinion, Calvinist culture has nothing to do with disdain for other people. This is the reason why we are again asking you - as representatives of European citizens, who have chosen us directly - to reflect and to rectify. Your statements attack one of the most important values that underpin our European Union: equality. In the last six decades, we have all managed together, Mr Dijsselbloem, to materialize a dream that once seemed unthinkable: that Europeans should be equal in opportunities, rights and obligations. The EU is not just rules, meetings and political decisions. What supports all of this, what gives meaning to the EU, are our common values, and equality as the most important one. Therefore, respecting these values should be the first obligation for any European leader, Mr Dijsselbloem. This includes assuming that European citizens, like any human being, are all equally respectable, regardless of our gender and our country of origin or residence. Attacking a certain group of countries as you have done is attacking each one of the EU countries.

THE NEW EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT KEY COMMITTEE COMPOSITION 31 JULY 2019 INTRODUCTION After several marathon sessions, the European Council agreed on the line-up for the EU “top jobs” on 2 July 2019. The deal, which notably saw German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen (CDU, EPP) surprisingly designated as the next European Commission (EC) President, meant that the European Parliament (EP) could proceed with the election of its own leadership on 3 July. The EPP and Renew Europe (formerly ALDE) groups, in line with the agreement, did not present candidates for the EP President. As such, the vote pitted the S&D’s David-Maria Sassoli (IT) against two former Spitzenkandidaten – Ska Keller (DE) of the Greens and Jan Zahradil (CZ) of the ACRE/ECR, alongside placeholder candidate Sira Rego (ES) of GUE. Sassoli was elected President for the first half of the 2019 – 2024 mandate, while the EPP (presumably EPP Spitzenkandidat Manfred Weber) would take the reins from January 2022. The vote was largely seen as a formality and a demonstration of the three largest Groups’ capacity to govern. However, Zahradil received almost 100 votes (more than the total votes of the ECR group), and Keller received almost twice as many votes as there are Greens/EFA MEPs. This forced a second round in which Sassoli was narrowly elected with just 11 more than the necessary simple majority. Close to 12% of MEPs did not cast a ballot. MEPs also elected 14 Vice-Presidents (VPs): Mairead McGuinness (EPP, IE), Pedro Silva Pereira (S&D, PT), Rainer Wieland (EPP, DE), Katarina Barley (S&D, DE), Othmar Karas (EPP, AT), Ewa Kopacz (EPP, PL), Klara Dobrev (S&D, HU), Dita Charanzová (RE, CZ), Nicola Beer (RE, DE), Lívia Járóka (EPP, HU) and Heidi Hautala (Greens/EFA, FI) were elected in the first ballot, while Marcel Kolaja (Greens/EFA, CZ), Dimitrios Papadimoulis (GUE/NGL, EL) and Fabio Massimo Castaldo (NI, IT) needed the second round.

We welcome your initiative and the broad political support for strengthened action on raw materials. President von der Leyen insisted in her presentation of Next Generation EU on the need to increase the resilience and open strategic autonomy of the EU, notably by promoting investment in key value chains that are crucial for our future resilience. In line with the new industrial strategy, the Commission adopted, on 3 September 2020, an action plan on critical raw materials. One of the actions is to create a European Raw Materials Alliance, involving all relevant stakeholders. In addition, the Commission services have published a report looking at critical raw material needs for strategic sectors - such as renewable energy, e- mobility, digitalisation, aerospace and defence - that will be required in 2030 and 2050. The funds allocated to strengthen the EU economy need to be commensurate to the challenges we face. The InvestEU Programme identifies funding for primary and secondary raw materials in the sustainable infrastructure policy window. In addition, Horizon Europe will fund innovation to strengthen market intelligence and development throughout the life cycle of raw materials, i.e. production, recycling and substitution solutions. Non-budgetary policies will also accompany these measures to reinforce the EU open strategic autonomy while also defending our values.
