Malaysia Connects 2018 1 I officially assumed my post as the High Commissioner of Malaysia to the Federal Republic presented my Letter of Credence to His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces on 13 September 2018. During my tenure as the High Commissioner, I hope to explore new collaborations and to deepen existing relations between Malaysia and Nigeria for the benefit of both countries. Last but not least, on behalf of the High Commission of Malaysia in Abuja, I would like to say thank you for all cooperation and support given to the High Commission and wish all readers Season’s Greetings, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2019. Sincerely, Ambassador Gloria Tiwet Highlights of the High Commission’s activities in 2018 PRESENTATION OF CREDENTIALS (13 SEPTEMBER 2018) The new High Commissioner of Malaysia to Nigeria, H.E. Gloria Tiwet presented her Letter of Credence to H.E. Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 13 September 2018 at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. H.E. High Commissioner was accompanied by her spouse Mr. K. Nithiyanathan, Head of Chancery Mr. Mohd Yunus Ibrahim, Trade Commissioner Mr. Mohd Khairy Maidin and H.E. High Commissioner presented the Letter of Credence to H.E. President of Nigeria Third Secretary Mr. Nurul 13 Sept 2018 Ezhar Salehuddin. Malaysia Connects 2018 2 After the ceremony, H.E. High Commissioner hosted a reception at the chancery. Among the invitees were the Dean of Diplomatic Corps, ASEAN Heads of Mission, officials from the Presidency and the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, HBS and spouses. H.E. High Commissioner received salute Inspection of Guards of Honour Parade from the Guards Brigade at the Villa H.E. High Commissioner and Spouse Signing of guestbook had the audience to the President Reception at the High Commission of H.E. High Commissioner with the Malaysia Protocol and Police ADC Malaysia Connects 2018 3 MALAYSIA-NIGERIA BILATERAL CONSULTATION (24 AUGUST 2018) 2018 witnessed the first Bilateral Consultations between Malaysia and Nigeria, held on 24 August 2018 in Putrajaya. The Malaysian delegation was led by YM Raja Dato’ Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, Deputy Secretary for Bilateral Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia while the Nigerian delegation was led by His Excellency Ambassador Olusola Iginla, Director (Regions), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The consultation provided the opportunity for both sides to review current state of bilateral ties and to explore new areas of cooperation that could benefit both nations. Nigerian Delegation Malaysian Delegation SAMBUTAN HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI 2018 Sambutan Hari Raya Aidilfitri peringkat Suruhanjaya Tinggi Malaysia di Abuja telah diadakan pada Sabtu, 30 Jun 2018. Program bermula pada jam 11.30 pagi dan berakhir jam 3.00 petang dan dihadiri oleh rakyat Malaysia yang bermastautin di Abuja, Duta-Duta Besar ASEAN, pegawai-pegawai HBS dan LRS serta ahli keluarga. Para tetamu dijamu dengan juadah hari raya yang disediakan oleh para HBS. Malaysia Connects 2018 4 NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION, 31 AUGUST 2018 The High Commission of Malaysia in Abuja held the National Day reception 2018 on Friday, 31 August 2018. The event was hosted by Her Excellency Madam Gloria Tiwet, High Commissioner of Malaysia at the Chancery. Honorable Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria was represented by His Excellency Bello S. Ringim, Undesecretary (Finance and Administration) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Around 200 guests comprising senior government officials, prominent local politicians, representatives of diplomatic corps and captains of industries as well as media were present. Gloria Tiwet with the members of the event Nigerian Malaysian Business Council Malaysia Connects 2018 5 OUTREACH PROGRAMME OF THE HIGH COMMISSION, SEPTEMBER 2018 The High Commission of Malaysian in Abuja successfully held two outreach programme in 2018 namely with the Faculty of Art & Science Social, University of Abuja, Nigeria and Sascon International School, Abuja on 14 and 18 September 2018, respectively. The programme was held to promote people-to- people relations between Malaysia and Nigeria, especially in the education sector and to educate the audience on the role and function of a Malaysian foreign mission abroad. Students from the University of Abuja Head of Chancery gave a presentation on the role and functions of the Mission Trade Commissioner presentation on the H.E. Gloria Tiwet presented a gift to a business and investments relations student from Sascon International School between Malaysia and Nigeria Group Photo with the students from Group Photo with students from Sascon University of Abuja International School Malaysia Connects 2018 6 NATIONAL SPORTS DAY 2018, 8 OCTOBER 2018 In line with the Malaysian government’s initiative to promote a healthier lifestyle, the High Commission of Malaysia held a Sports Day on Saturday, 13 October 2018. The programme started with a warm-up session before brisk walking around the Chancery’s neighborhood. The programme continued with sukaneka programme for the children. A total of 38 participants took part in the programme. OUTSTANDING EMPLOYEE AWARD FOR 3RD QUARTER 2018 (JUNE – SEPT) AND 4TH QUARTER 2018 (OCT – DECEMBER) The High Commission awarded the Outstanding Employee Award to recognize excellent work performance by the local staff, for the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2018.
