ON THE AGENDA with your Resident’s Association Spring has sprung – yay! The abundant daffs are showing off their happy faces, the days are finally warming and walks on the beach or bush tracks are full of birdsong. Meantime, our busy Committee continues to work on local issues, supporting various groups and initiating a few projects of our own. The South Arm Community Library has been a huge hit – we've even had to build more shelves, thanks to the generosity of so many locals. Thanks to Karen Kelly for initiating and driving this project with much enthusiasm! The South Arm Songsters are loving their new keyboard - Monday nights at the Centre are a joyous occasion these days! We hope to see them making guest appearances at local events soon :) Plans are afoot for coming South Arm Community Markets – in November we hope to have the band from South Arm Primary School belting out some tunes and December is going to be focusing on Live Local, Give Local. (Keep up with the Market on Facebook – South Arm Community Market). Safety is high on the agenda so bushfire preparation and boating safety should be on everyone's mind. This newsletter now has regular articles from Tas Fire Service and MAST. Over the last month or so, the Community Centre has also hosted a Movie Night for South Arm Primary and a Bushfire Planning Workshop. It's awe- some to see our Community Centre so much livelier than ever before and we're looking forward to more groups forming and discovering this fantastic local facility. The SAPRA AGM is coming up in November (see notice on p.1) so please put the date in your diary and come along. We hope to have a guest speak- er – more news on that later. Remember, if you have any issues you'd like to raise or projects you'd like support for, please contact me or any of the Committee Members. Cheers, Kerry Scambler SAPRA President | [email protected] | 0407 875 460

7 Rural Alive and Well (RAW) on the Peninsula: Talk to a mate – 24 hours a day / 7 days a week RAW operates across rural Tasmania (including our Peninsula) providing sup- port to individuals, families and commu- nities through Outreach services and training programs. It was formed to cre- ate resilience and capacity of individu- als, families and the community to react to challenging life experiences with par- ticular emphasis on suicide prevention, mental health and wellbeing. The outreach program is a 24/7. RAW staff can come to you or you can talk to them over the phone. They'll give you a friendly ear in a difficult time, offer in- formation, support and strategies to help as well as linking you to rel- evant services that can assist. It doesn’t matter what the issue is when someone is experiencing high levels of stress and feeling alone. What matters is that someone demonstrates a caring, confidential and non-intrusive approach to helping, and being available when the help is most needed. RAW provides accessible and responsive support services to all rural communities. Assisting the community in the response to crisis, and help in recovering or coping after adversity. They establish structures and networks to assist individuals, families and communities to deal with suicide.
