Parey* Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri – 185234, Jammu and Kashmir, India; [email protected] Abstract Himalayas represents one of the unique ecosystems in terms of species diversity and species richness. While studying taxa of butterflies in Jammu and Rajouri districts located in Western Himalaya, fourteen species (Abisara bifasciata Moore, Pareronia hippia Fabricius, Elymnias hypermnestra Linnaeus, Acraea terpsicore Linnaeus, Charaxes solon Fabricius, Symphaedra nais Forster, Neptis jumbah Moore, Moduza procris Cramer, Athyma cama Moore, Tajuria jehana Moore, Arhopala amantes Hewitson, Jamides celeno Cramer, Everes lacturnus Godart and Udaspes folus Cramer) are recorded for the first time from the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Investigations for butterflies were carried by following visual encounter method between 2014 and 2019 in morning hours from 7 am to 11 am throughout breeding seasons in Jammu and Rajouri districts. This communication deals with peculiar taxonomical identity, common name, global distribution, IUCN status and photographs of newly recorded butterflies. Acraea terpsicore L. (Lepidoptera : Nymphalidae) merupakan salah satu jenis kupu-kupu yang memiliki sebaran terbanyak di Universitas Sriwijaya Indralaya, dan larvanya ditemukan dapat memakan tanaman inang Piriqueta racemosa (Passifloraceae). Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui perilaku makan larva, lama hidup, dan kelulusan hidup pada A. terpsicore pada tanaman P. racemosa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari sampai dengan bulan Februari 2020 di Rumah Kupu-Kupu Jurusan Biologi Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam Universitas Sriwijaya Indralaya, Sumatera Selatan. Penelitian perilaku makan larva, lama hidup, dan kelulusan hidup A. terpsicore pada tanaman inang P. racemosa dilakukan menggunakan metode deskriptif dan visual recording yang meliputi: deskripsi morfologi setiap stadia, lama waktu perkembangan setiap stadia, dan perilaku makan larva. Hasil penelitian perilaku makan larva A. terpsicore pada tanaman inang P. racemosa sangat bervariasi antar instarnya, rata-rata frekuensi makan tertinggi terjadi pada pagi, dan terendah pada malam hari. -

We evaluated the capacity of non-cotton plant species (both 34 naturally growing and cultivated) to function as alternative hosts for the cotton leaf hopper 35 Amrasca devastans (Homoptera: Ciccadellidae) and its natural enemies. Forty eight species 36 harboured A. devastans. Twenty four species were true breeding hosts, bearing both nymphal 37 and adult A. devastans, the rest were incidental hosts. The crop Ricinus communis and the 38 vegetables Abelomoschus esculentus and Solanum melongena had the highest potential for 39 harbouring A. -

Merr) (Lepidoptera: Erebidae, Arctiinae) E. González & H. M. Beccacece Abstract The presence of Dysschema sacrifica (Hübner, [1831]) on soybean ( Glycine max (L.) Merr) is reported for the first time. Larvae of this species were found consuming soybean leaves in soybean fields in Córdoba province, Argentina, and were able to complete their life cycle. Characteristics of adults and larvae are provided for rapid identification in the field. Due to the widespread distribution of this species within the region where soybean is more intensively cultivated in South America, we conclude that D. sacrifica is a potential soybean pest. Further studies on infestation frequency, damage levels and control by natural enemies are needed. KEY WORDS: Lepidoptera, Erebidae, Arctiidae, Dysschema sacrifica , soybean, pest, Argentina.
