O. FLETCHER Published by Order of the Trustees of the Australian Museum Sydney, New South Wales, Australia 1971 95540-1 ABSTRACT This catalogue is a classified list of all type specimens of the fossil plants, invertebrates, and vertebrates, including specimens mentioned in literature, in the collections of the Australian Museum, Sydney. Also included are plaster replicas (plastotypes) of important type specimens, and, when known, the institution in which the original specimen is stored is given. Genera and species are arranged in alphabetical order in their appropriate larger biological groups. The cata logue, containing almost 4,000 specimens, is complete to December, 1968. INTRODUCTION Type specimens are listed in alphabetical order according to genera and species in their various groups such as Foraminifera, Anthozoa, Pelecypoda, etc. Terminology of the types fol lows generally accepted usage-holotypes, paratypes, lectotypes, paralectotypes, syntypes, neo types, and hypotypes. The latter may include any described specimen which does not fall into the preceding ,categodes. When a new species has been based on a single specimen it has been listed as a holotype. Plaster replicas of type specimens in the collections of other institutions are included in this catalogue; to these the prefix "plasto" is added, and unless otherwise stated the registered numbers follow the letter "L". Generic and specific names are listed in the form originally assigned by the authors, but subsequent changes in nomenclature have also been included. Cross references are given in such instances. References are also given to the more important papers by authors in which type material listed in this catalogue is referred to. The locality names and geological horizons are generally those as originally published, but where no doubt exists the geological horizons have been changed to present-day nomenclature. Specimen numbers following the letters "F" and "MF", unless otherwise stated, repre sent actual specimens, while those with the prefix "AM" are thin sections and, when in paren theses following an "F" number, ha\'e been cut from that particular specimen. Most of the type specimens in the collection of the Mining and Geological Museum, Sydney, were transferred to the Australian Museum about 25 years ago. These are now known by the Australian Museum Register numbers, but if the original number of a specimen was mentioned in literature it is also given in this catalogue with the new number. Type specimens which should be in the Australian Museum collections but are missing have been recorded as such. Many are possibly in the Mining Museum collection and will eventually be found. With a few exceptions all figured specimens have been checked with the published illustrations, and other listed type material has been located and examined. The writer is deeply indebted to Mr J. A. Mahoney, of the Department of Geology and Geophysics, University of Sydney, in compiling the list of type specimens of fossil mammals. Mr Mahoney provided information from an almost completed manuscript of a paper by himself and Dr W. D. L. Ride to be entitled "Index to the Genera and Species of Fossil Mammalia described from Australia and New Guinea between 1838 and 1968 (including citations of type specimens and primary type specimens)". The paper, when published, should be consulted for additional information on mammalian type specimens in the Australian Museum. A considerable number of mammalian casts in the collection are excluded from the list, as it is not possible at this time to determine, which of the specimens listed in Lydekker, 1887 Catalogue of the fossil Mam malia in the British Museum (Natural History), are the originals. Also some specimens on loan are possibly figured or mentioned specimens but this cannot be clarified at this juncture. The writer also wishes to acknowledge the assistance given in the preparation of this catalogue by Miss Dorothy Jones, Museum Assistant in the Department of Palaeontology. D. Eberlein, Michael Churkin, Jr., Claire Carter, H. C. Berg, and A. T. Ovenshine Introduction This report consists of the following: 1) Geologic map (1:250,000) (Fig. 1); includes Figs. 2-4, index maps 2) Description of map units 3) Map showing key fossil and geochronology localities (Fig. 5) 4) Table listing key fossil collections 5) Correlation diagram showing Silurian and Lower Devonian facies changes in the northwestern part of the quadrangle (Fig. 6) 6) Sequence of Paleozoic restored cross sections within the Alexander terrane showing a history of upward shoaling volcanic-arc activity (Fig. 7). The Craig quadrangle contains parts of three northwest-trending tectonostratigraphic terranes (Berg and others, 1972, 1978). From southwest to northeast they are the Alexander terrane, the Gravina-Nutzotin belt, and the Taku terrane. The Alexander terrane of Paleozoic sedimentary and volcanic rocks, and Paleozoic and Mesozoic plutonic rocks, underlies the Prince of Wales Island region southwest of Clarence Strait. Supracrustal rocks of the Alexander terrane range in age from Early Ordovician into the Pennsylvanian, are unmetamorphosed and richly fossiliferous, and aopear to stratigraphically overlie pre-Middle Ordovician metamorphic rocks of the Wales Group (Eberlein and Churkin, 1970).

  • Chapter 18: Lachlan River Catchment
18 Lachlan River Catchment Maitland Mercury & Hunter River Advertiser, 5 April 1862 True Tales of the Trout Cod: River Histories of the Murray-Darling Basin 18-1 The Lachlan (From the Empire’s Correspondent) March 30 – The continued absence of rain causing stoppage of the puddling machines for want of water, is the sole reason of the small escort leaving tomorrow. As before stated, the river, one mile distant, is tabooed for washing purposes to the last dregs, so that the returns per escort will diminish until we are blessed with the winter’s rain. Great quantities of fish have this week been picked up by hand out of the bed of the lagoon between the Victoria and Caledonian loads, some of the codfish weighing over 30 pounds weight, besides bream, perch and jewfish, the latter being one of the oddest of the finny tribe, presenting the appearance of half newt, with porpoise head and feelers round the mouth. This fish deposits its ova in a gravelly cell on the bottom using stones of upwards of a pound weight in their construction (as a blackfellow asserts). Certain it is that little mounds, of beehive form, abound in this lagoon, containing gravel. • Turill 1 Core Hole Is Designed to Investigate the Hydrocarbon Potential of PEL 456
Review of Environmental Factors Core Hole Drilling of Turill No. 1 in PEL 456 - Gunnedah Basin Santos QNT Pty Ltd ABN: 33 083 077 196 Issue date: 04/05/2010 Review of Environmental Factors: Gunnedah Basin Core Hole Drilling: PEL 456 Executive Summary Santos QNT Pty Ltd (Santos) has entered into a Farmin Agreement with the titleholder of PEL 456, Macquarie Energy (Macquarie) to explore for petroleum (in accordance with the Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991 (NSW)). Santos has been appointed the Operator for and on behalf of the titleholder under the Farmin Agreement. Condition 1.0 of the PEL 456 licence states that prior to carrying out any drilling activities a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) is required to be submitted to the Department of Industry and Investment (DII) to enable a determination to be made under Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW). The Turill 1 core hole is designed to investigate the hydrocarbon potential of PEL 456. Discovery of gas resources in this area has the potential to increase the state’s reserves and revenue from coal seam gas and underpin future exploration or production in the region. This REF covers the drilling of Turill 1 core hole only. The Turill No. 1 core hole site is located on privately owned land, zoned General Rural 1(a) under the Merriwa Local Environmental Plan (LEP). The REF provides details of the planning controls for the area and the existing environment. The site proposed for Turill 1 is a privately owned rural property in a gently undulating area, which is presently used for agricultural activities.

The factors are interacting; the fabric of the past is closely woven. In this attempt to understand the Shire's past, and thus its present landscapes and material culture, the subject has been divided into nine themes focusing on key aspects of the Shire's development, and these themes are interrelated in order to reflect the past holistically, as a "fabric".
