Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, IPB University, February 13th, 2021 1 Welcome Message from Dean of Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, Yamaguchi University Koichi Sato Dean Joint Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Yamaguchi University Dear colleagues in Indonesia and Japan. I am very pleased to be able to convey my message to you at the 5th AJIVE symposium. Japanese veterinarian and Indonesian veterinarian have had a long and strong relationship through the United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, Yamaguchi University. Based on our relationship, we established AJIVE (Association of Japan-Indonesia Veterinary Education) in 2018. The mission of AJIVE is to cultivate the international educational researchers/teachers of veterinary medicine, to develop the program to the standard of Asia veterinary education based on the international educational system, to enhance the international veterinary educational research enforcement system. At the last symposium in Bali, I wrote the following message, “Recently, there are many threats in the veterinary fields, such as the shortage of animal protein due to population growth, and an increase in transboundary/zoonotic diseases in Asia. To face these great threats, we should develop our veterinary education and research.” Unfortunately, after the last symposium, the threat has become true. COVID-19 has spread all over the world, including Indonesia and Japan. Under these circumstances, I think that the great efforts of a veterinarian are required by human society. We, veterinarians, should do our best for the safety and health of the human race. This time, we will hold a web-style AJIVE symposium. This style is good for us, because anyone who wants to attend this symposium can join and discuss with us. I believe this symposium becomes a big step on the road to the fruitful collaboration between universities in Indonesia and Japan. The 1st AJIVE symposium in IPB University in 2017 Recently, there are many threats in the veterinary fields, such as the shortage of animal protein due to population growth, and an increase in trans-boundary/zoonotic diseases in Asia. Therefore, to face these significant threats, we should develop our veterinary education, research, and technology. Fortunately, Japanese veterinarians and Indonesian veterinarians have a long relationship. Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, IPB University with the Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences, Yamaguchi University initiated to develop education and research program. The mission of this collaboration is to cultivate the international educational researchers/teachers of veterinary medicine, to develop the program to the standard of Asian veterinary education based on the international educational system, and to enhance the international veterinary educational research enforcement system. After that, these initiators invited other universities in both Indonesia and Japan to make the collaboration to be bigger.
