  • Meet the Governors of the Winstanley School
Meet the Governors of The Winstanley School Vivien Evans Chair of Governing Body (from June 2019) Governor type Community Governor I worked as a full-time secondary school teacher for 34 years in several different schools in Leicester City and Leicestershire prior to taking early retirement at the end of the 2014/15 academic year. During my teaching career I held various roles, including being a classroom teacher, Curriculum Leader, Language College Director, Assistant Principal and trainee Headteacher. I was appointed to the Senior Leadership Team at Groby Community College to achieve and maintain Specialist Language College status in partnership with Brookvale High School. In my role as Language College Director I took a lead in the college being twice awarded the International School Award as well as achieving International Baccalaureate World School status. During my last few years as Assistant Principal, I was responsible for the behaviour, attendance and punctuality of KS4 students and was also the designated Safeguarding Lead. In this role I also supported the college to achieve the Equalities Award. In retirement I am very keen to use my skills and experience to support The Winstanley School to be formally recognised as a provider of high quality learning for all students. This year I have expressed a particular interest in monitoring the effectiveness of Leadership, at all levels Steve Reeves Vice Chair of Governing Body Governor Type: Parent Governor A little over twenty years ago I came to work at Millfield Primary School as a Key Stage 2 teacher. • Newsletter 14 - Frid
RUSHEY MEAD ACADEMY NEWSLETTER Issue number 14 Friday 24th May 2019 Together We Make A Positive Difference 7 for 7 book challenge quiz Four top readers in Year 7 travelled to Bosworth Academy with Mrs Hamlet to take part in the 7 for 7 Book Challenge Quiz, presented by Creative Learning Services. There were five other schools participating, and although we did not win, the students performed very well and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to test their book and general knowledge. Well done to all of the students involved - Divpreet, Shruthiy, Dnega and Maryam. Author visit - Alex Wheatle Alex Wheatle, winner of The Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and MBE for services to literature, visited our library to talk to groups of students from years 8 to 10. He told them all about his challenging childhood circumstances, growing up in the care system, and how it led to his involvement in the Brixton riots in 1981 and the life-changing moment he discovered the power of reading. Students found inspiration in his tale, with comments such as: “Today I understood the importance of reading.” “I use to hate books until I read Alex Wheatle (‘Crongton Knights’).” “Today was interesting and inspiring. It makes me want to read. It makes me want to do something in my future.” “Interesting and reassuring. It doesn’t matter what your story is – it’s never too late to start doing what you love.” All students who attended were gifted books which they got signed by the author; they then enjoyed participating in a writing activity led by Alex.

LLR Active Schools County Calendar 2020-21 www.lrsport.org/activeschools www.lrsport.org/schoolgames www.teamleicestershire.org LLR Active Schools County Calendar 2020-21 The 2019/20 LLR Active Schools County Finals Calendar contains all County Finals that will take place this academic year for both the Team Leicestershire & School Games competition programmes and is the culmination of the local school sport offer. It contains key play-by dates for local SSPAN inter-school qualification rounds and some basic information on formats. If you are interested in any of the competitions included, please contact your local SGO for more information and to get your school involved (https://www.lrsport.org/sspans). The competition structure has been developed to enable more individual young people to represent your school in sport or physical activity at a level that is appropriate to their interests and competencies. Each competition has been allocated to a tier, with a description of the tiers as follows. Please ensure that you are aware of the tier of competition and select your teams appropriately. Performance based competitions catering for the most talented athletes and teams that your school can field, subject to some eligibility criteria (e.g. National Governing Body age restrictions on competitions). These competitions are an opportunity to showcase the sporting prowess of your school and for teams to progress to County finals and in most competitions to Regional and National finals. We would advocate an ‘in it to win it’ approach to team selection for these Performance competitions, however this does not mean that schools with ‘weaker’ sides should not enter as Competition the local SSPAN and County Final structure will allow each school to perform at their relevant level as it has done so in the past.

  • Post 16 and Sixth Form/Further Education Colleges
Post 16 and Sixth Form/Further Education Colleges Leicester City post-16 schools and 6th form/FE colleges use relevant information about school-leavers who have accepted places on courses. This is to facilitate those establishments to implement appropriate transitional support measures. End of Key Stage 4 examination results are shared unless the young person opts out of this arrangement. Safeguarding information where relevant is also shared. Leicester City post-16 schools and 6th form/FE colleges share data with Leicester City council. Information on school-leavers who have accepted places on courses are shared along with an indicator for the level of the main programme of study. This facilitates research into the progression of young people to courses at a level below that which might be expected. Research findings are reported in such a way that individual young people cannot be identified from them.
