Attain knowledge and understanding of laser cutting, aerodynamics, 3D printing and applying these technologies to produce (and subsequently compete with) a Scalextric based race car. Workshop details • Introduce Scalextric race track • Demonstrate 3D printing (to produce winner’s trophy) and laser cutting (to produce race car) • Solder motors • Test bodywork designs in miniature scale wind tunnel • Build car • Test • Race • Crown winner and present 3D printed trophy Target audience - Anyone interested in technology and engineering How does SOLO taxonomy develop a Andy Day (@Andyphilipday) – route for more sophisticated thinking by students? Expected outcomes A clear picture of the underlying concepts of SOLO taxonomy, its potential uses in the classroom, examples of how it is being used by teachers, and an awareness of the potential pitfalls in misapplying SOLO. Participants should go away with some practical ideas of why and how they might apply SOLO taxonomy in their forthcoming teaching and assessment to improve both their and their student’s development of sophistication in their subject. -
Meet the Governors of the Winstanley School
Meet the Governors of The Winstanley School Vivien Evans Chair of Governing Body (from June 2019) Governor type Community Governor I worked as a full-time secondary school teacher for 34 years in several different schools in Leicester City and Leicestershire prior to taking early retirement at the end of the 2014/15 academic year. During my teaching career I held various roles, including being a classroom teacher, Curriculum Leader, Language College Director, Assistant Principal and trainee Headteacher. I was appointed to the Senior Leadership Team at Groby Community College to achieve and maintain Specialist Language College status in partnership with Brookvale High School. In my role as Language College Director I took a lead in the college being twice awarded the International School Award as well as achieving International Baccalaureate World School status. During my last few years as Assistant Principal, I was responsible for the behaviour, attendance and punctuality of KS4 students and was also the designated Safeguarding Lead. In this role I also supported the college to achieve the Equalities Award. In retirement I am very keen to use my skills and experience to support The Winstanley School to be formally recognised as a provider of high quality learning for all students. Leicester City Council Education and Children’s Services Transport policy statement for learners aged 16-18 in further education and continuing learners aged 19 and over. Valid from: 1 August 2015 to 31 July 2016 1. Summary of Policy Statement and Main Objectives This document sets out the support available to young people of Leicester entering or continuing with full-time Post 16 Education to encourage participation and prevent transport being a barrier to young learners. It provides the most up to date details of charges and means testing procedures. It gives advice on the support available to learners with learning/mobility difficulties to encourage independent travel to and from the place of learning. 2. Details of concessionary fares. Leicester City Council – provision for mainstream learners A bus pass costing £425 is available for Leicester resident pupils over statutory school age if they live more than 3 miles but less than 20 miles from the school/college attended, and if the student is aged 16, 17 or 18 at the start of the college year. The pass allows travel on both First and Arriva buses to get to school/college. There are alternatives to the Leicester City Council Bus Pass. If you only need to use a bus from one operator, you could get better value in terms of price and flexibility by purchasing a season ticket directly from a commercial bus operator. Before you apply for a Leicester City Council bus pass we strongly urge you to consider all of the commercially available alternatives. Most commercially available season tickets allow you to travel at any time and on any day including weekends. -

RUSHEY MEAD ACADEMY NEWSLETTER Issue number 14 Friday 24th May 2019 Together We Make A Positive Difference 7 for 7 book challenge quiz Four top readers in Year 7 travelled to Bosworth Academy with Mrs Hamlet to take part in the 7 for 7 Book Challenge Quiz, presented by Creative Learning Services. There were five other schools participating, and although we did not win, the students performed very well and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to test their book and general knowledge. Well done to all of the students involved - Divpreet, Shruthiy, Dnega and Maryam. Author visit - Alex Wheatle Alex Wheatle, winner of The Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and MBE for services to literature, visited our library to talk to groups of students from years 8 to 10. He told them all about his challenging childhood circumstances, growing up in the care system, and how it led to his involvement in the Brixton riots in 1981 and the life-changing moment he discovered the power of reading. Students found inspiration in his tale, with comments such as: “Today I understood the importance of reading.” “I use to hate books until I read Alex Wheatle (‘Crongton Knights’).” “Today was interesting and inspiring. It makes me want to read. It makes me want to do something in my future.” “Interesting and reassuring. It doesn’t matter what your story is – it’s never too late to start doing what you love.” All students who attended were gifted books which they got signed by the author; they then enjoyed participating in a writing activity led by Alex. -

LEICESTER CITY COUNCIL THE LEICESTER (HIGHFIELDS SOUTH PHASE TWO RESIDENTS PARKING SCHEME) (EXPERIMENTAL) TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2011 Leicester City CouncH (hereinafter referred to as “the Council”) in exercise of their powers under section 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the 1984 Act”) and of Parts Ito Ill of Schedule 9 to the 1984 Act and of all other enabling powers including the Road Traffic Act 1991 as amended (whether generally or in relation to the area of the Council) (“the 1991 Act”) and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part Ill of Schedule 9 of the 1984 Act hereby make the following Order: Section 1 General Citation and Commencement. 1. (i) This Order may be cited as ‘The Leicester (Highfields South Phase Two Residents Parking Scheme) (Experimental) Traffic Regulation Order 2011” and shall come into force on the 6th June 2011. (ii) Upon coming into force the existing traffic restrictions at the same locations described in the attached schedule I previously imposed by The Leicester (Consolidation) Traffic Regulation Order 1975 and its subsequent amendments together with the restrictions imposed by The Leicester (Consolidation) Traffic Regulation Order 2006 and The Leicester(Doctor)Parking Places Order 1981 are hereby suspended and replaced by the restrictions specified in the schedule below for the duration of this Order. (iii) The Order may be modified or suspended by the Director of Regeneration,Highways & Transportation, if it appears to him essential in the interests of the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic or of the provision of suitable and adequate parking facilities on the highway in accordance with Section 10(2) of the 1984 Act.
