Meet the Governors of The Winstanley School Vivien Evans Chair of Governing Body (from June 2019) Governor type Community Governor I worked as a full-time secondary school teacher for 34 years in several different schools in Leicester City and Leicestershire prior to taking early retirement at the end of the 2014/15 academic year. During my teaching career I held various roles, including being a classroom teacher, Curriculum Leader, Language College Director, Assistant Principal and trainee Headteacher. I was appointed to the Senior Leadership Team at Groby Community College to achieve and maintain Specialist Language College status in partnership with Brookvale High School. During my last few years as Assistant Principal, I was responsible for the behaviour, attendance and punctuality of KS4 students and was also the designated Safeguarding Lead. In this role I also supported the college to achieve the Equalities Award. In retirement I am very keen to use my skills and experience to support The Winstanley School to be formally recognised as a provider of high quality learning for all students. We are very proud of what our students have achieved this year, both academically and in other areas, and I am very privileged in my role to be able to see so many aspects of college life. I often visit classrooms or other events that are taking place in the college and it is always inspiring to see our students’ enthusiasm and progress. I also see staff working incredibly hard for our students and taking pride in their progress, happiness and success. I would like to thank all of the college’s staff for their work. Our year 11 students have recently finished their exams and left college. This is always an emotional moment for staff and students. We are saying ‘goodbye’ to them, but we are also very excited about them going out into the world and what they will achieve there. This year group have made tremendous progress, both academically and personally. Some of them have overcome huge challenges to enable them to enjoy academic success. The preparation for their exams and the exams themselves went well, and we now await the results. We will miss this year group! All other year groups in the school have also completed formal exams.

LLR Active Schools County Calendar 2020-21 www.lrsport.org/activeschools www.lrsport.org/schoolgames www.teamleicestershire.org LLR Active Schools County Calendar 2020-21 The 2019/20 LLR Active Schools County Finals Calendar contains all County Finals that will take place this academic year for both the Team Leicestershire & School Games competition programmes and is the culmination of the local school sport offer. It contains key play-by dates for local SSPAN inter-school qualification rounds and some basic information on formats. If you are interested in any of the competitions included, please contact your local SGO for more information and to get your school involved (https://www.lrsport.org/sspans). The competition structure has been developed to enable more individual young people to represent your school in sport or physical activity at a level that is appropriate to their interests and competencies. Each competition has been allocated to a tier, with a description of the tiers as follows. Please ensure that you are aware of the tier of competition and select your teams appropriately. Performance based competitions catering for the most talented athletes and teams that your school can field, subject to some eligibility criteria (e.g. National Governing Body age restrictions on competitions). These competitions are an opportunity to showcase the sporting prowess of your school and for teams to progress to County finals and in most competitions to Regional and National finals. We would advocate an ‘in it to win it’ approach to team selection for these Performance competitions, however this does not mean that schools with ‘weaker’ sides should not enter as Competition the local SSPAN and County Final structure will allow each school to perform at their relevant level as it has done so in the past.
