COMMUNICATION: This handbook is one of the District's primary means of communicating. Parents/Guardians are urged to read this book carefully and to discuss it with their children. PARENTAL SUPPORT: Parents/Guardians are encouraged to support their children's efforts in school by emphasizing the importance of education, reading with their children, and making sure that children complete assignments and attend school regularly. INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS: We live in a country where each person has the right to be treated with justice. It is therefore the responsibility of each student to treat others justly, with respect and dignity. The District will not tolerate behavior that violates these human relations standards. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY: Children are responsible for obeying the laws of society as well as all District regulations. The District has a close working relationship with local law enforcement agencies and will contact them if violent or other criminal activity takes place. Parents/Guardians should also be aware that they themselves are legally responsible and financially liable for their children's actions. MANDATED REPORTERS: All school personnel, including teachers and administrators, are required by law to immediately report any and all suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Together parents/guardians and the schools can provide a safe, happy, and orderly atmosphere for all children.
