For the second straight game, the opponents took a 2-0 lead on the Knights with Princeton doing the early damage on Saturday en route to its 3-2 win. After dominating the early portion of a 4-on-4 situation during the opening minutes of the first period, Clarkson lost control of the puck at center ice where Princeton’s Grant Goeckner-Zoeller picked it up and skated in on a breakaway. Clarkson senior Kyle McNulty (Wakefield, RI) made the initial stop, but Brett Wilson gained control of the rebound and knocked in the first goal at 6:41 to give the visitors the early lead. Just 44 seconds into the second period, Princeton made it 2-0. Senior Mike Sullivan (Stouffville, ONT) put Clarkson on the scoreboard at 4:03 when he scored on a low backhanded shot from along the right wing after taking a pass from Cayer. Nick Dodge also assisted. Princeton regained the two-goal advantage at 14:26. Clarkson closed the gap to 3-2 at 7:00 of the third as Beca knocked in a loose puck during a scramble in front with Zalewski and Weller assisting. Clarkson’s bid to tie it up in the closing minutes was hurt when the Knights were called for consecutive penalties over the final four minutes. The Tigers out shot Clarkson 23-19. McNulty finished with 20 saves. Clarkson was 0-of-5 on the power play, while Princeton was 0-of-4 with the man advantage. 2006 CLARKSON HOCKEY 2007 QUOTES F ROM THE C OACH: “I think our mindset is different,” stated George Roll about the Knights’ play home and away from Cheel Arena. “We know we have to play well when we go on the road. We play a solid game when we are on the road. We execute our systems, limit the mistakes in our own zone and keep things simple. When we get at home, for whatever reason, we are turning the puck over and not taking care of the defensive zone. This past weekend we gave up seven even-strength goals (5-on-5), which is more than we had given up in the previous eight games combined. I don’t know if we are trying to do too much at home and trying to impress the crowd. Whatever it is, our mindset has got to change as far as in the way we play at Cheel. It is certainly discouraging to be swept in our first league weekend at home. But, it is early in the season and we have to regroup and bounce back for the big games coming up.”

St. Lawrence Continues to Roll in ECACHL Action Dartmouth joins Saints with weekend sweep ALBANY, N.Y. -- St. Lawrence and Dartmouth were the big winners over the weekend, as the two teams swept their ECAC Hockey League games. While those two claimed four points on the weekend, four others -- Cornell, Harvard, Princeton and Quinnipiac -- earned splits. In non-league action, Brown, Rensselaer and Yale all picked up wins. For the Saints, their perfect start in league play is their best since sweeping four to open conference action in the 1999-2000 season. It also marks the first time the Saints have won back-to-back league series since that 99-00 season. SLU has now won five straight games, matching a five-game streak in December and January of 2004-05. Senior captain Kyle Rank had a goal and two assists over the weekend, and has six points in his last three games to lead the team. His three points and 29 faceoff wins in the Ws led to his being named Player of the Week. Saint rookies were keys to Saturday's win over Quinnipiac, including frosh Sean Flanagan who scored his first collegiate goal to tie the game at 1-all. He then assisted on the game winner. The Big Green's Mike Devine earned Goaltender of the Week honors after he backstopped his squad to victory over the weekend by making 72 total saves. Freshman teammate T.J. Galiardi provided some scoring, as he potted a goal each night, while Nick Johnson had three helpers on the weekend. It was the Big Green's first-ever road sweep of Colgate and Cornell. The Green started things off with a 6-3 win over the Raiders and then fought off a late charge by the Big Red to win 3-2 on Saturday. Dartmouth opened up with two goals in the first period vs. Cornell and then RECENT RESULTS scored an empty-netter late in the third for a 3-0 lead.
