Jesus Christ, who is both God and man, brings our humanity with him into heavenly glory. The liturgy today reminds us that where Christ has gone, we hope to follow. If the apostles felt disoriented when they no longer saw the Risen Christ on earth as He had appeared to them for forty days, they would swiftly be reoriented by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. During this coming week, I encourage you to meditate on the mystery of heaven: what do you hope it will be like to be in the endless presence of the Holy Trinity, the Blessed Mother, the angels and the saints? HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY Prayers and best wishes for all who are celebrating Mother's Day today. A special welcome to any family members or friends who are visiting this weekend as part of a Mother's Day celebration. Please note that our annual Mother's Day Rose Sale is taking place after the Masses Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Roses make a wonderful gift to a mom, and you will also help efforts in Lake County that support expectant mothers and the promotion of a culture of life. PARISH FAMILY ROSARY The month of May is dedicated to Our Lady. Praying the rosary frequently is a marvelous devotion that can help us become closer to Jesus and Mary. Complimentary booklets to help you pray the rosary are at the doors of our church. I will lead parishioners in praying the Glorious Mysteries of the rosary together on Sunday May 26, at 11:40am. This will allow folks who attended 10:30am Mass or are coming for Noon Mass to pray together. Also, a reminder, the rosary is prayed Monday-Saturday after the 8:00am Mass. THE GUILD OF ST. MARY I am very grateful to the members of the Guild of St. Mary for their support of our parish and the wider needs of the Church. Last week, I received a very generous gift of $23,000 to our parish from the proceeds of the annual Guild of St. Mary Prelude. The Guild of St. Mary is the source of a tremendous amount of good in our parish and the wider community. Thank you to all the ladies of the Guild. THE MEMORARE On this Mother's Day, we recognize the many situations in our families, communities, nation and our world that need God's help. In a particular way, I encourage you to pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary, asking for her prayers and that she intercede with our Lord Jesus. A very fitting prayer is the Memorare: Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. The ladies took longer to fall in line and part of the Basilica of the Dr. Ludy Bengson & Ms. Esperanza Immaculate Concepción Vasallo at the Station of the Cross group could not finish before 12 noon when the Gothic spires that jut into the sky.

Aer His resurrecon from the dead, Christ appeared to his disciples for forty days and then ascended into heaven where he is "seated at the right hand of the Father." Years ago on a retreat, a Benedicne monk encouraged me to "try and imagine the joy Jesus felt when he ascended to the Father." I found that insight helpful both during the retreat and every year when we celebrate this feast. Spend some me today prayerfully imagining the joy Jesus experienced when he ascended to His Father in heavenly glory. Then ask Jesus for the gi of that same joy in your heart and in the hearts of people you love. ST. The first of these is the apparition of 11 February 1858, when Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old peasant girl, admitted to her mother that a "lady" spoke to her in the cave of Massabielle (a mile from the town) while she was gathering firewood with her sister and a friend.[1] Similar appearances of the "lady" were reported on seventeen further occasions that year. Bernadette Soubirous was later canonized as a Saint, and Roman Catholics and some Protestants believe her apparitions have been validated by the overwhelming popularity and testament of healings claimed to have taken place at the Lourdes water spring. In 1862, Pope Pius IX authorized Bishop Bertrand-Sévère Laurence to permit the veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lourdes.
