Public officers are the trustees and ser- vants of the people and are at all times amenable to them.” In other words, any power the government has is given to it by the citizens and is for the good of everyone. Persons elected to public office in state government work for the people and are accountable to the voters for their actions. The constitution further states: “The people of this state have the inherent right of regulating their internal government.
