Cereals Programme was one of the largest research programmes in the Institute for Agricultural Research comprising of over 20 scientists from different disciplines. Work involved research planning, execution, analysis, report writing and providing guidance to researchers. 1995-96 : Head, Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, Ahmadu Bello University. 1988- : Farming Systems Research Network Co-ordinatorship 2000 National: Nigerian National Farming Systems Research Network Coordinatorship-1988-92. Responsibility included publication of the NFSRN Newsletter twice a year, organizing national and zonal farming system research workshops, publication of proceedings, provision of leadership for young FSR practitioners and chairing the national steering committee. I was responsible for coordinating the selection process for applications for research grants, and assisting grantees in achieving the objectives of the projects. Dissemination of the results was achieved through the publication of newsletters and journals. West African Region: West African Farming Systems Research Network (WAFSRN)-1991 to 2000. Having served on the Steering Committee since 1988, I was requested to serve as WAFSRN's 2 Coordinator in 1991. The responsibilities included publication of the Journal of Agricultural Systems in Africa twice a year, WAFSRN Bulletin twice a year, organizing training for FSR-E practitioners in both Francophone and Anglophone countries of West Africa in alternate years, provision of leadership role for the various Collaborative Research Groups of WAFSRN, planning symposia and giving assistance on FSR matters in the region. The job also included fund seeking for the various country network members as well as assessing applications for grants and monitoring and evaluating outcomes. Africa: Association of Farming Systems Research Extension and Training (AAFSRET). On my initiative at the 11th Annual Farming Systems Research-Extension (AFSRE) Symposium in Michigan State University, U.S.A. in October, 1991, the FSR practitioners working in Africa met as a body for the first time. AAFSRET is the product of that initiative. I was the Chairman from 1992 to 1994. Global: Association of Farming Systems Research and Extension (AFSRE). I served on the Steering Committee of AFSRE-the global (international) association between 1994 and 1996. NIRCIK: I have been coordinating the activities of the Nigerian Resource Center for Indigenous Knowledge since inception in 1993. NIPRANET: Nigeria Participatory Rural Appraisal Network promotes the use of participatory approaches for sustainable development among NGO's and other development agencies in Nigeria.
