Background. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic condition that manifests as inflammation of synovial joints, leading to joint destruction and deformity. Methods. We identified single-cell RNA-seq data of synovial fibroblasts from RA and osteoarthritis (OA) patients in GSE109449 dataset. RA- and OA-specific cellular subpopulations were identified, and enrichment analysis was performed. Further, key genes for RA and OA were obtained by combined analysis with differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between RA and OA in GSE56409 dataset. The diagnostic role of key genes for RA was predicted using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Finally, we identified differences in immune cell infiltration between RA and OA patients, and utilized flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, and Western blot were used to examine the immune cell and key genes in RA patients. Results. The cluster 0 matched OA and cluster 3 matched RA and significantly enriched for neutrophil-mediated immunity and ECM receptor interaction, respectively. We identified 478 DEGs. In the top 20 degrees of connection in the PPI network, the key genes for RA were obtained by comparing with the gene markers of cluster 0 and cluster 3, respectively. ROC curve showed that CCL2 and MMP13 might be diagnostic markers for RA. We found aberrant levels of CD8+T, neutrophil, and B cells in RA fibroblasts, which were validated in clinical samples. Importantly, we also validated the differential expression of key genes between RA and OA. Conclusion. High expression of CCL2 and MMP13 in RA may be a diagnostic and therapeutic target. 1. However, the poor water solubility and low bioavailability of curcumin restrict its clinical application. Methods: In this study, we prepared and evaluated a curcumin-hydrogel (cur-hydrogel) to reduce cardiomyocyte apoptosis and reactive oxygen species formation induced by hypoxia-reoxygenation injury, promote autophagy, and reduce mitochondrial damage by maintaining the phosphorylation of Cx43. Results: Meanwhile, cur-hydrogel can restore cardiac function, inhibit myocardial collagen deposition and apoptosis, and activate JAK2/STAT3 pathway to alleviate myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats. In this study, we applied GIS technology to characterize the spatial pattern of mortality due to liver cancer in the autonomous region of Guangxi Zhuang in southwest China. A database with liver cancer mortality data for 1971-1973, 1990-1992, and 2004-2005, including geographic locations and climate conditions, was constructed, and the appropriate associations were investigated. It was found that the regions with the highest mortality rates were central Guangxi with Guigang City at the center, and southwest Guangxi centered in Fusui County. Regions with the lowest mortality rates were eastern Guangxi with Pingnan County at the center, and northern Guangxi centered in Sanjiang and Rongshui counties. Regarding climate conditions, in the 1990s the mortality rate of liver cancer positively correlated with average temperature and average minimum temperature, and negatively correlated with average precipitation. In 2004 through 2005, mortality due to liver cancer positively correlated with the average minimum temperature. Regions of high mortality had lower average humidity and higher average barometric pressure than did regions of low mortality.

The State Council officially replied the “planning framework of comprehensive controls for karst rocky desertification regions” during 11th Five Year Plan. The counties in Guangxi appointed by the planning framework were taken as the study objects. First, the index system of suitability assessment was established and the fuzzy comprehensive assessment was conducted. The control patterns were regionalized by a bottom up method. Second, the karst rocky desertification control patterns under different geographic background were collected and summarized. The control patterns were generalized by a top down method. Finally, the assessment results of the two methods were compared and adjusted. Then, the karst counties of Guangxi were regionalized and the suitable control patterns for karst counties were determined. Introduction In Guangxi, some successful rocky desertification control patterns and techniques have been formed. But these methods are developed under different ecological, social and economic conditions [1-2]. These patterns have promotional value theoretically, but their application scopes still need to be discussed [3].

    Linguistics of the Tibeto-Burman Area Volume 33.2 ― October 2010 LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY ALONG THE CHINA-VIETNAM BORDER* David Holm Department of Ethnology, National Chengchi University Abstract The diversity of Tai languages along the border between Guangxi and Vietnam has long fascinated scholars, and led some to postulate that the original Tai homeland was located in this area. In this article I present evidence that this linguistic diversity can be explained in large part not by “divergent local development” from a single proto-language, but by the intrusion of dialects from elsewhere in relatively recent times as a result of migration, forced trans-plantation of populations, and large-scale military operations. Further research is needed to discover any underlying linguistic diversity in the area in deep historical time, but a prior task is to document more fully and systematically the surface diversity as described by Gedney and Haudricourt among others. Gedney, in his influential article “Linguistic Diversity Among Tai Dialects in Southern Kwangsi” (1966), was among a number of scholars to propose that the geographical location of the proto-Tai language, the Tai Urheimat, lay along the border between Guangxi and Vietnam. In 1965 he had 1 written: This reviewer’s current research in Thai languages has convinced him that the point of origin for the Thai languages and dialects in this country [i.e. Thailand] and indeed for all the languages and dialects of the Tai family, is not to the north in Yunnan, but rather to the east, perhaps along the border between North Vietnam and Kwangsi or on one side or the other of this border.
