Ebury Publishing. Paperback. Book Condition: new. BRAND NEW, Doctor Who and the Ark in Space, Ian Marter, The survivors of a devastated future Earth lie in suspended animation on a great satellite. When Earth is safe again, they will awaken. But when the Doctor, Sarah and Harry arrive on the Terra Nova, they find the systems have failed and the humans never woke. The Wirrrn Queen has infiltrated the satellite, and laid her eggs inside one of the sleepers. As the first of the humans wake, they face an attack by the emerging Wirrrn. But not everyone is what they seem, and the only way the Doctor can discover the truth is by joining with the dead mind of the Wirrrn Queen. The price of failure is the Doctor's death, and the end of humanity. This novel is based on a "Doctor Who" story which was originally broadcast from 25 January to 15 February 1975. This title features the Fourth Doctor as played by Tom Baker, and his companions Sarah Jane Smith and Harry Sullivan. Virgin New Adventures • Meanings of the Mara The Time of the Doctor • Big Chief Studios • and more Number 43 Trinity 2019 [email protected] [email protected] oxforddoctorwho-tidesoftime.blog users.ox.ac.uk/~whosoc twitter.com/outidesoftime twitter.com/OxfordDoctorWho facebook.com/outidesoftime facebook.com/OxfordDoctorWho The Wheel of Fortune We’re back again for a new issue of Tides! After all this time anticipating her arrival true, Jodie Whittaker’s first series as the Doctor has been and gone, so we’re dedicating a lot of coverage this issue to it. We’ve got everything from reviews of the series by new president Victoria Walker, to predictions from society stalwart Ian Bayley, ratings from Francis Stojsavljevic, and even some poetry from Will Shaw. But we’re not just looking at Series Eleven. We’re looking back too, with debates on the merits of the Capaldi era, a spirited defence of The Time of the Doctor, and drifting back through the years, even a look at the Virgin New Adventures! Behind the scenes, there’s plenty of “change, my dear, and not a moment too soon!” We bid adieu to valued comrades like Peter, Francis and Alfred as new faces are welcomed onto the committee, with Victoria now helming the good ship WhoSoc, supported by new members Rory, Dahria and Ben, while familiar faces look on wistfully from the port bow. It’s also the Society’s Thirtieth Anniversary this year, which will be marked by a party in Mansfield College followed by a slap-up dinner; an event which promises to make even the most pampered Time Lord balk at its extravagance! On a personal note, it’s my last year before I graduate Oxford, at least for now, so when the next issue is out, I’ll be writing from an entirely new place.

  • The Hinchcliffe/Holmes Era of Doctor Who (1975-77) Matt Hills
‘Gothic’ Body Parts in a ‘Postmodern’ Body of Work? The Hinchcliffe/Holmes Era of Doctor Who (1975-77) Matt Hills (1) The names Philip Hinchcliffe and Robert Holmes may not be greatly familiar to many academic readers of this volume, unless, that is, they also happen to be fans of the (1963-1989, 1996, 2005-) BBC TV series Doctor Who. Hinchcliffe was the producer of this series on all episodes originally transmitted in the UK between 25/1/1975 and 2/4/77, while Holmes was script editor on all material broadcast between 28/12/74 and 17/12/77. However, he went un-credited in this role on stories where he was named as writer, due to BBC regulations which forbade script editors to commission from themselves (see Howe and Walker, 1998). In story terms, Philip Hinchcliffe produced ‘The Ark in Space’ through to ‘The Talons of Weng-Chiang’, whilst Holmes script-edited stories running from ‘Robot’ through to ‘The Sun Makers’ (1977). Under Hinchcliffe as producer, Holmes also wrote ‘The Ark in Space’, ‘The Deadly Assassin’ and ‘The Talons of Weng-Chiang’, and effectively wrote, or at least heavily reworked, ‘The Pyramids of Mars’ and ‘The Brain of Morbius’ (on-screen, these were attributed to the pseudonyms Stephen Harris and Robin Bland). Today, Philip Hinchcliffe is a regular contributor to DVD commentaries and features accompanying ‘his’ Doctor Who stories. Robert Holmes passed away on 24th May, 1986: his overall contribution to Doctor Who is the subject of a documentary on the DVD release of the (1985) story ‘The Two Doctors’.

Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Doctor Who and the Day of the Daleks by Terrance Dicks Catalogue of the Scrolls. The Society Library (also known as the Black Scrolls of Rassilon) is kept in a random and increasing number of small boxes. It began life as a (reasonably extensive) collection of Target novelisations of televised Doctor Who stories, which were immensely popular in the era before VHS and DVD releases. Freed of the constraints of a BBC budget and special effects limitations, some of them are even regarded by characters as a better interpretation of the stories than the televised versions. More recently, the library has been given a considerable number of original novels and short stories from the the "Wilderness Years", as well as some tie-in novels of the recent series. There are also some non-fiction titles and a couple of audio adventures and DVDs. A full catalogue of the society holdings is found below, sorted by Doctor and alphabetically, and a version can be downloaded as a spreadsheet with filters here. Where possible, each title links to their respective article on TARDIS Wiki. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently unable to loan any books out to members. Hopefully some day, we'll be able to share these books with you once again! First Doctor. Novelisations. Audio. Mission to the Unknown - audio recording of missing episode with linking narration. • You're Listening to Imaginary Worlds, a Show About How We Create Them
1 You’re listening to Imaginary Worlds, a show about how we create them and why we suspend our disbelief. I’m Eric Molinsky. This is the last in my three part series on Doctor Who and once again before – spoilers ahead! As I mentioned before, the experience for American Doctor Who fans was very different than fans in the UK. When Doctor Who was first broadcast here in the 1970s, American kids had to discover the show on their own. In fact, some stations played it late at night, so some of the first fans over here were college students. Even today, BBC America plays new episodes at 9 o’ clock, which is very much adult prime time. But in the UK, Doctor Who has always been a mainstream family show. Very often, kids are introduced to it through their parents. And the merchandise is everywhere. That means for a lot of kids in the UK, Doctor Who is their first experience being frightened by something on TV. In fact, “hiding behind the sofa” because of the monsters on Doctor Who scared you, is such a common experience for British kids, the phase “behind the sofa” has become a meme on its own. ROBIN: Oh yes to the extent I can even remember the texture of my parents sofa as we say in the UK. I like the texture of it to this day because of the hiding behind it. Robin Bunce teaches culture and history at the University of Cambridge. He raised his daughter to be a Doctor Who fan, and he actually found it endearing to watch her be frightened by the show.
