Mezzo-soprano Katarina Galagaza recently graduated with a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts, where she studied with Penelope Bitzas. Previously, she received a Bachelor of Music in Applied Voice at the Eastman School of Music. With the Eastman Opera Theatre, Katarina had the privilege of performing Mrs. Soames in Rorem’s Our Town, La suora infermiera in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Suor Pazienza in Giordano’s Mese Mariano, and covered the role of Prince Charmant in Massenet’s Cendrillon. With the Boston University Opera Institute, Katarina has performed the roles of Mrs. Webster in Griffin Candey’s Sweets by Kate, Nancy in Britten’s Albert Herring, Flora Bervoix in Verdi’s La traviata, and Fox Goldenback in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen. Katarina has performed in scenes as Charlotte from Massenet’s Werther, Dorabella from Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Prince Orlofsky from Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Fidalma in Cimarosa’s Die Heimliche Ehe (Il matrimonio segreto), and Hänsel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. Katarina first attended Seagle Music Colony as an Emerging Artist in the summer of 2018, performing the role of Sesto in Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto. In the summer of 2019, Katarina returned to Seagle to perform the role of Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. She continued on as a postseason Fall Artist. With the American Center for New Works Development at the Seagle Music Colony, she participated in a workshop of a new opera, Harmony, by Robert Carl and libretto by Russell Banks, premiering at Seagle in 2020. She sang the roles of Livy Clemens’ Ghost and Julia Twitchell, while also singing alto in the ensemble portions. As a part of Seagle’s outreach program, she sang the roles of Monkey Queen and Lord Tiger in Kamala Sankaram’s Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers, and was the mezzo-soprano soloist in their Cole Porter revue, “HOT”. Katarina is currently pursuing an Artist Certificate at the University of Kansas City Missouri, studying under the tutelage of Dr. Maria Kanyova. She is also the mezzo-soprano Apprentice Artist with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. .
