Coaching Career 1975-79 Qinghai Province, JING PU Head Coach 1985-89 Utah State University, Head Coach • 12th Season Assistant Coach 1989-90 California State at Chico, Beijing Sports Univ. ‘74 • Utah State ‘89 Assistant Coach 1990-93 California University of Pennsylvania, Head Coach In his 11 years leading the Syracuse women’s volleyball team, head coach Jing Pu’s 1993-95 Central Connecticut teams have posted six 20-plus win seasons and made fi ve appearances in the BIG EAST State, Head Coach Tournament. He is also a two-time recipient of the BIG EAST Coach of the Year. 1995-2006 Syracuse University, Head Coach Strong Mentor Several players have excelled under Pu’s tutelage. Dana Fiume (‘01) holds two SU Education school records, including attacks and block assists. In 2000, Noreen Carroll (‘02) broke 1974 Beijing Sports University the school’s assist record in only her third season in Orange, and in 1999, Rachel 1989 Utah State University, Watson (‘00) shattered the school’s single-season and career digs records. Kelly Duan Master’s of Education (‘06) broke the single-season school record for kills with 537 in 2005 and Kristen Conway (‘06) owns three attack records. Coach of the Year Awards Pu guided his fi rst All-American during the 2004 season, when Kelly Duan was 1991 Pennsylvania State named honorable mention and then she garnered the accolade again in 2005. Pu’s Athletic Conference 2004 and 2005 teams also produced a record number of All-BIG EAST selections as 1992 Pennsylvania State Duan, Kristen Conway and Aila Dommestrup all earned league honors. Athletic Conference 1993 East Coast Conference Success at Syracuse and in the BIG EAST 1996 In 2005, Pu guided the Orange to one of its best seasons ever. Syracuse went 25-10 2004 BIG EAST Conference and 11-3 in the BIG EAST, the most conference wins SU ever had in a season. In the BIG EAST Championship, Syracuse knocked off Pittsburgh for the fi rst time in postseason BIG EAST Tournament Appearances play, battling back from a 0-2 defi cit to steal a win in fi ve games. The Orange then lost 1996 Semifi nals to Louisville in the semifi nals. 1997 Quarterfi nals In 2004, Pu posted his fi fth 20-plus win season at Syracuse as he led the Orange back 1999 Semifi nals to the BIG EAST Tournament. For his efforts he earned the BIG EAST Coach of the Year 2004 Semifi nals award. Syracuse fi nished the season with a 25-7 overall and 8-2 mark in the league 2005 Semifi nals to cap off one of the most successful seasons in program history. It was the highest single-season win total since 1996 and most conference wins since 1990. The Orange Player Awards at Syracuse began the year winning its fi rst nine matches, and went 12-1 to start the season. It • Two AVCA All-America selections marked the best record to begin a season in program history, and tied the record for • Five AVCA Regional All-America selections most consecutive-wins at the start of a season. In that span, SU captured two in-season • 12 All-BIG EAST team selections tournament titles at the Army Tournament and the Big Orange Tournament. • 16 CoSIDA Academic In 2002, Pu posted his 300th career victory in a match versus Siena on October 16. All-District Selections Pu’s 2003 team enjoyed two six-match winning streaks, including SU’s fi rst win over BIG • One CoSIDA Academic EAST rival Georgetown since 1997, on its way to a 17-16 record. The 2003 season fi nale All-American versus West Virginia was Pu’s 300th match at Syracuse. Pu’s squad returned to the BIG EAST Tournament in 1999 where SU lost to eventual champion Georgetown in a fi ve-game semifi nals. In 2000, Pu posted his fourth 20-plus win season at Syracuse with a 24-10 record, the squad’s highest win total since 1997. In 1997, Pu guided Syracuse to a 24-12 mark and a second consecutive trip to the BIG EAST Tournament. It marked the fi rst time since 1992 and 1993 that the Orange earned back-to-back conference tournament berths. Pu arrived in Syracuse in 1995, and in his fi rst season, he coached the team to a 17- 16 mark. Team Pu’s Record Last Win Head Coaching Start Albany 4-2 2003 Pu’s fi rst coaching job was as the head coach of the women’s professional team of Qinghai Binghamton 5-0 2005 Province, China in 1975. He came to the United States in 1985 to serve as an assistant coach at Utah State University. After four years at Utah State, Pu spent one season as an assistant coach Buffalo 11-2 2005 and physical education instructor at California State University at Chico. Cincinnati 1-0 2005 In 1990, Pu moved east, taking the reins at California University of Pennsylvania. He Colgate 15-1 2005 inherited a squad that went 15-20 in his fi rst season before coaching it to consecutive 30-win seasons – 35-8 in 1991 and 36-3 in 1992. Pu was honored as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Connecticut 6-6 2005 Conference Coach of the Year in 1991 after leading the Vulcans to their fi rst conference win Cornell 8-0 2005 and PSAC title. Pu earned the award the following season as the team repeated as conference DePaul 1-0 2005 champion. Pu moved on to Central Connecticut State in 1993. He was awarded his third Coach of the E. Washington 0-1 - - Year award in as many seasons when he led the Blue Devils to their best-ever record. One Fordham 2-0 2005 season later, he coached the program to a 34-4 mark. Georgetown 5-7 2005 Pu graduated from the Beijing Sports University in China in 1974.
