En 1993, il passe à la réalisation avec Killing Zoe, polar désespéré, érotique et paroxystique traversé par des personnages écorchés vifs incarnés par Eric Stoltz, Jean-Hugues Anglade et Julie Delpy. En 2002, il adapte brillamment Les Lois de l'attraction de Bret Easton Ellis, histoire chorale d'un campus américain gangréné par la drogue, la violence et le sexe. En 2006, il plonge dans l'univers tortueux et torturé de Silent Hill et participe à l'écriture de sa version cinéma réalisée par Christophe Gans. En 2007, il travaille avec Neil Gaiman (Stardust, Coraline...) sur le scénario de La Légende de Beowulf de Robert Zemeckis, fresque d'heroic fantasy épique et magistrale tournée grâce au procédé de Performance Capture. Un temps annoncé sur l'adaptation filmique du jeu vidéo Wolfenstein, Roger Avary vient de terminer le script de Glamorama, tiré du roman homonyme de Bret Easton Ellis, et devrait commencer son tournage courant 2012. -

SILENT HILL PRODUCTION NOTES A child’s mysterious ailment. A desperate mother. An eerie, deserted city shrouded in mist, plagued by secrets. The mysteries are only beginning to deepen. When young mother Rose (Radha Mitchell) -- desperate to find a cure for her daughter Sharon’s bizarre illness -- refuses to accept a medical recommendation of psychiatric institutionalization, she flees with Sharon and heads for SILENT HILL, the town that her daughter continuously names in her sleep. Although her husband Christopher (Sean Bean) adamantly opposes, Rose is convinced the mysterious town will hold all the answers. But as her car approaches the deserted city’s limits, a mysterious figure appears in the road, forcing Rose to swerve and crash. When she comes to, Sharon is gone, and suddenly Rose – accompanied by a determined police officer (Laurie Holden) from a nearby town -- is on a desperate quest in Silent Hill to find her child. It’s immediately clear that her destination – left alone since devastating coal fires ravaged Silent Hill -- is unlike any place she's ever been: smothered by fog, inhabited by a variety of strange, haunted beings, and periodically overcome by a living Darkness that literally transforms everything it touches. As Rose searches for her daughter, she begins to learn the history of Silent Hill – its violent, puritanical past and the origins of its accursed state -- and realizes that her daughter is just part of a larger, more terrifying destiny. director, producer, and academy award™-winning screenwriter 2013 PRESS KIT 1/6 THE FACTS: Roger Avary was born on August 23, 1965 in Flin Flon, Manitoba Canada. In 1984 Roger Avary’s Super-8mm short film, THE WORM TURNS, was awarded Best Film at the Los Angeles Film Teachers Association Film Expo. In 1986 Roger Avary attended the Pasadena Art Center College of Design, majoring in Film. In 1988 Roger Avary & Quentin Tarantino collaborated on the development of the screenplay for TRUE ROMANCE, basing it on an original screenplay by Avary titled THE OPEN ROAD. In 1992 French producer Samuel Hadida financed TRUE ROMANCE for director Tony Scott. With Quentin Tarantino’s blessings, Roger Avary performed the necessary production rewrites on TRUE ROMANCE while Tarantino was directing RESERVOIR DOGS. In 1992 Roger Avary & Quentin Tarantino collaborated in Amsterdam on the screenplay for PULP FICTION, based in part on an original screenplay by Avary titled PANDEMONIUM REIGNED. TRUE ROMANCE was released on September 10, 1993. In 1993 Roger Avary wrote and directed the French neo-noir crime thriller KILLING ZOE for True Romance producer, Samuel Hadida. KILLING ZOE was the first feature film to utilize the Otto Nemitz Swing & Tilt lenses for the purposes of perspective distortion. KILLING ZOE was released on August 19, 1994. ROGER AVARY 2/6 Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times called KILLING ZOE “Generation X’s first Bank Caper Movie.” Len Klady of Daily Variety wrote that “Avary has concocted one of the most assured directing debuts in recent years with a film that demonstrates a one-of-a-kind sensibility well worth watching. -

Sample research statements from ERA 2018 submission NTRO Type Title of output Research Statement Public exhibitions Adelaide Chamber Singers 2016 Research Background: Adelaide Chamber Singers' 2016 Concert Season was created and and events Concert Season curated by Carl Crossin - Artistic Director and Conductor of Adelaide Chamber Singers (ACS). The Season consisted of four concert programs which explored, through performance, (a) the creative nexus between contemporary choral and music from the European Renaissance particularly in relation to settings of the same, or similar texts, and (b) the power of music to reinforce textual narrative in musical forms. Three of the four programs featured the world premiere of new music commissioned by Carl Crossin and ACS for this Season. Research Contribution: Program One explored several settings of texts in praise of music including a comparatively new work by Australian Paul Stanhope – Lament for St. Cecilia – composed as a companion piece for Britten's famous Hymn to St. Cecilia. Australian Daniel Brinsmead's Ode to Music (an ACS commission) was also premiered. Program Two presented the Adelaide premiere of James Whitbourn's Annelies, an extended narrative work with texts from the Diary of Anne Frank. Program Three explored the concept of contemporary composers re-imagining the works of earlier composers. Program Four featured a new work (ACS commission) from Australian Paul Stanhope in a performance that subsequently won the South Australian "2016 Performance of the Year Award" at the 2017 Art Music Awards. The major part of Program Four however was a 'chamber' performance of Faure's Requiem. This work is usually the province of much larger choirs but, in this context, was praised for its clarity and intimacy.
