  • Motivation in the Norwegian Postenliga a Quantitative Study of Motivational Orientation of Elite, Male Handball Players in Norway
Allan Henriksen Motivation in the Norwegian Postenliga A quantitative study of motivational orientation of elite, male handball players in Norway Master thesis in Sport Sciences Department of Coaching and Psychology Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, 2011/2012 k Abstract This study examined motivational orientation related to different variables according to achievement goal theory in the Norwegian top handball league for men in 2011/2012. 177 of the 225 registered players responded to the electronic questionnaire (78,7%). Results indicated, as hypothesized, that players with most playing time scored higher on both task orientation and perception of task climate. There were also additional indications; e.g. that playing time correlated positively with age and pay, meaning the older the players are the more playing time they reported, in addition to increased pay. Findings are discussed in relation to previous research; future directions and implications for researchers, coaches and athletes are suggested. As sport psychology has grown exponentially over the past few decades, and sport journalists chase after athletes with motivational issues like cats chasing mice; I believe it is time to put the bulls’ eye on motivational orientation for handball players. • RUKOMET - Skripta
Svi učesnici igre naizmenično imaju uloge napadača i i igrača odbrane.

Artikkel godtatt for publisering i temanummeret:”Media” i International Review for the Sociology of Sport, no.3-4: 369-394 MEDIA IMAGE : SPORT, GENDER AND NATIONAL IDENTITIES IN FIVE EUROPEAN COUNTRIES1 Abstract This article investigates the media construction of female bodies in relation to the symbolic processes of national-making through the European Championship in handball in 1998. The focus is on mediated texts from Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Norway and Romania, in which cultural differences and similarities through cultural metaphors in a feminist perspective are the main issues. Contradictions and ambivalences are also included in the analysis. If sport contributes to the construction and reconstruction of national identities in a global world the following four criteria must be included: First, the sport must be mediated as having a glorious history (Denmark, Hungary, Norway and Romania). Second, if this is applied to women`s sport, the sport must be represented as “sex-appropriate” in a historical context and/or today (Denmark, Hungary, Norway and Romania). To do so, female athletes cannot be understood as "the Other" in the overall context which is analysed (Denmark, Hungary, Norway and Romania). Third, the athletes` bodies must be mediated as aggressive, tough, strong, and non-fragile with power to play in competitions in a historical context and/or today (Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Norway and Romania). Fourth, European Championships in the sport must be presented as media events in the country (Denmark and Norway). For countries in the former eastern bloc, both state politics and politics in the field of handball may have a decisive say as to whether the sport is mediated to contribute to the (re)construction of national identities (Hungary and Romania).
