The males of these bordering populations are brachypterous or macropterous, while females are always micropterous. Morphological and cytogenetic data indicated that the populations that border the distributions of M. gajardoi and M. spinolai, belong to a different species of parapatric origin. KEY WORDS: Wing polymorphism, heterochromatin variation, vector of Chagas’ disease Mepraia spinolai (Porter) and Mepraia gajardoi Frías et gajardoi. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The first synoptic catalogue of Reduviidae is given to Uruguay including nine subfamilies, Ectrichodiinae (4), Emesinae (1), Hammacerinae (1), Harpactorinae (11), Peiratinae (4), Phymatinae (3), Reduviinae (5), Stenopodainae (7), Triatominae (9), being Harpactorinae and Triatominae the best represented by eleven and nine species respectively. Criceptopareis tucumana (Berg) is mentioned for the first time for Uruguay and is confirmed the distribution for Atrachelus cinereus (Fabricius), Melanolestes argentinus Berg, Rasahus hamatus (Fabricius), Zelurus femoralis femoralis (Stål), Diaditus semicolon Stål, Triatoma infestans (Klug) and Triatoma rubrovaria (Blanchard) from the material belonging to the Museo de La Plata (Argentina). This information is of valuable for insect’s conservation biodiversity programs. Keywords: Reduviidae, Heteroptera, Uruguay, Synonymies, Distribution Introduction Reduviidae is one of the five largest families of Heteroptera, comprising about 981 genera and more than 6878 spe- cies, with most occurring in the tropics (Henry 2009). Reduviids take place in all biogeographical regions (Schuh & Slater 1995). They are voracious predators of insects and arthropods (Ambrose 2006); nevertheless some like Triatominae species are hematophagous and important vector of Chagas Disease (Coscarón 2002). -

E-mail: [email protected] The genus Praocis Eschscholtz, 1829 belongs to Praocini, an endemic Neotropical tribe of Pimeliinae from southern South America. According to the last revision (Kulzer 1958) Praocis comprises 77 species and 7 subspecies arranged in ten subgenera, distributed from central Peru to the southern part of Patagonia in Argentina and Chile. Lacordaire (1830) described Praocis rotundatus collected by himself in Mendoza (Argentina): Paramillos de Uspallata. Later, Laporte (1840) described Praocis rotundata from Chile: Coquimbo. Both nominal species are available and they belong to different subgenera according to the current classification of Kulzer (1958). Praocis rotundata Lacordaire, 1830 was interpreted by Solier (1840) as a synonym of P. sulcata Eschscholtz, 1829 (a Chilean species) based on a misidentification: he studied specimens of P. rotundata Lacordaire and concluded they were P. su lc a ta . It is evident because he stated that the specimens were from Argentina, and cited the following character states (among others): clypeal suture as horizontal deep groove covered by frons, and outer and marginal carinae fused forming a wide carina irregularly punctured (wide lateral margin). -

Munis Entomology & Zoology, 12 (1): 254- 257] ABSTRACT: Gardena melinarthrum Dohrn, 1859, belonging to subfamily Emesinae of family Reduviidae recorded for the first time from West Bengal (Jalpaiguri dist.), India and redescribed along with additional diagnostic characters and measurements of different body parts. KEY WORDS: Reduviidae, Reduviinae, Gardena melinarthrum, new record, India The genus Gardena Dohrn belonging to the division Emesaria of the subfamily Emesinae under the family Reduviidae of Heteroptera (Hemiptera). The genus Gardena was named by Dohrn in 1859 with Ceylonese melinarthrum (sic) as the only species included, but this species and the genus itself were not described by Dohrn until 1860. Numerous additional species of Gardena have since been described from many parts of the world. Distant (1903) has described and recorded species, bicolour Distant, near Rangoon: Myanmar and recorded the species melinarthrum Dohrn from Sri Lanka under the genus Gardena. He further (1909) described the species fasciata under the genus Gardena. McAtee & Malloch (1926) expressed their doubt about the status of the species Gardena bicolour Distant, considering it is a probable synonym of melinarthrum described by Dohrn from Myanmar. -

The first goal of this study was to assess diversity of insects in a perennial switchgrass crop in South Carolina. A three-year study was conducted to sample insects using pitfall traps and sweep nets at the Pee Dee Research and Education Center in Florence, SC, from 2007- 2009. Collected specimens were identified to family and classified by trophic groups, and predominant species were identified.
