September 8 – September 12, 2022 Thursday September 8 - (Meals L-D) Our journey to the Hudson River Valley starts with departure at 7:30 am from St. Michael’s Church parking lot. Our “Executive Motorcoach* will provide an easy, luxury ride throughout the trip due to its many amenities. Lunch is included at Ethan’s Café in Clearfield, Pa. followed by arrival in the Hudson Valley area in late afternoon. Our home for the next 2 nights will be the Hilton Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown. Dinner tonight will be at Bistro Z at the hotel. The Executive Motorcoach is a full sized, 56 seat coach with reduced passenger capacity for 34. There and 2 tables at the back for groups to play cards or games. Enjoy plush wide seats, ample leg room and larger monitors. The convenience of individual tray tables, cup holders, Wi-Fi & power outlets so you can travel in comfort Friday, September 9 - (Meals B-D) After breakfast at the hotel, we will meet our Hudson River Valley “tour guide” and depart for a tour of the Rockefeller Estate known as Kykuit. Lunch will be on your own at Blue Hill Café (but don’t expect a table: just stake a claim on a picnic bench and chat up some locals, you’ll eat your gourmet lunch out of a brown paper box, surrounded by the fields where your kale and squash were growing not too long ago). Later we will tour Washington Irving’s Home, Sunnyside and Lyndhurst Mansion, one of America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions. Dinner this evening is at Harvest on Hudson offering wonderful views of the Hudson River. Saturday, September 10 - (Meals B-L-D) After breakfast at the hotel, we will meet our guide and depart for West Point Military Academy. The Academy’s mission is “to educate, train and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that, each graduate is a commissioned leader of character, committed to the views of Duty, Honor, and Country. Established in 1802, it is the oldest military academy in the United States. Our visit includes the Cadet Chapel, Trophy Point providing a “million-dollar view” of the Hudson River and the West Point Museum, with about 2,000 military relics on display from its collection of more than 45,000 items where everything is brilliantly presented. Lunch will be at The Thayer Hotel, a gothic-inspired hotel built in l926 on the grounds of the military academy. Our afternoon treat is a visit to Hyde Park and the Franklin D. Roosevelt National Site where a Park Ranger will give us a guided tour of the Roosevelt Home, followed by a self-guided tour of the museum. Dinner tonight will be at Coppola’s Hyde Park Restaurant before check-in at Homewood Suites in Poughkeepsie. See reverse side for more exciting details about Mohonk Mountain House and included features Sunday, September 11 - (Meals B-L-D) After breakfast at the hotel, we meet our guide again and depart for a short ride to Val-Kill, Eleanor Roosevelt’s Cottage to enjoy a short tour of the home. Once we are back on board our coach, we depart for Mohonk Mountain House for brunch and an included carriage ride. There will be free time to explore the special gardens and enjoy the beauty of the property before we leave in late afternoon. The famous 145-year-old Victorian Resort was founded by twin Lyndhurst Mansion brothers, Albert and Alfred Smiley. The hotel is still owned by the family and now has over 300 rooms. The grounds are spectacular – all 7,500 acres. The gardens are grand, and you can see five states from the tower. Dinner tonight is at Shadows on the Hudson in Poughkeepsie Monday, September 12 - (Meals B-L) Time to say farewell! Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before departing for home at 8:30 am. We will make several rest stops for your comfort and an included lunch stop at Panera on our way back to Canton. Estimated time of arrival time at St. Michael’s Church parking lot is 7:00 pm.
