Unfortunately, many teenagers and young adults suffer as victims of bullying for any number of reasons like these. A frightening trend of suicide has been emerging among these victims during the past few years and beyond. In December, the Alliance will hold a candle- light vigil and collect donations in order to honor and remember those victims. Look for members of the Alliance in the cafeteria from Nov. 28-30 with information about teen bullying, suicide, and the Trevor Project, the teen suicide prevention hotline. The candlelight service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m. in the chapel. Donations for the Trevor Project will be collected all week and at the vigil; look for posters around campus with more information. The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. According to the organization’s mission statement, “The Trevor Project is determined to end suicide among LGBTQ youth by providing life-saving and life-affirming resources including our nationwide, 24/7 crisis intervention lifeline, digital com- munity and advocacy/educational programs that create a safe, supportive and positive environment for everyone.” The Trevor Project envisions a fu- ture where the possibilities, opportunities and dreams are the same for all youth, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
