This paper analyzes the geodiversity, Geoconservation geoconservation and geotourism of HKGG. The main accomplishments summarized in this paper are Geotourism efficient conservation management, an optimized tourism infrastructure, a strong scientific interpretation system, mass promotion and education materials, active exchange with other geoparks, continuous training, and effective collaboration with local communities. -

For discussion PWSC(2021-22)5 on 21 April 2021 ITEM FOR PUBLIC WORKS SUBCOMMITTEE OF FINANCE COMMITTEE HEAD 705 – CIVIL ENGINEERING Transport – Ferry Piers 58TF – Improvement works at Kau Sai Village Pier 59TF – Improvement works at Lai Chi Chong Pier Members are invited to recommend to the Finance Committee – (a) the upgrading of 58TF to Category A at an estimated cost of $77.8 million in money-of-the-day (MOD) prices; and (b) the upgrading of 59TF to Category A at an estimated cost of $108.8 million in MOD prices. PROBLEM We need to carry out the following works – (a) 58TF for reconstruction of Kau Sai Village Pier to improve the berthing condition and facilities of the pier; and (b) 59TF for reconstruction of Lai Chi Chong Pier to improve the structural condition and facilities of the pier. /PROPOSAL ….. PWSC(2021-22)5 Page 2 PROPOSAL 2. The Director of Civil Engineering and Development, with the support of the Secretary for Development, proposes to upgrade the following projects to Category A – (a) 58TF at an estimated cost of $77.8 million in MOD prices for the reconstruction of Kau Sai Village Pier; and (b) 59TF at an estimated cost of $108.8 million in MOD prices for the reconstruction of Lai Chi Chong Pier. PROJECT SCOPE 3. The total sea area of this marine park is about 680 hectares. Ap Chau Duck's Eye The sea arch of Ap Chau is named Duck’s Eye, it is one of most famous geological attraction on the island. The arch is around two meters high by 10 meters wide; it is the geological product of 8000 years of wave erosion. Kat O Island Lying close to China, in the northeast of Plover Cove Country Park, this far-flung island is home to merely a few hundred people. Also known as Crooked Island, thanks to its irregular shape, Kat O was once a thriving fishing village with nearly 300 years of history. Kat O The Marriage Tree According to legend, as long as the coin is thrown through the heart-shaped ring of the root of the tree, the marriage can be achieved. -

N337 Historic Building Appraisal Entrance Gate San Wai, Ha Tsuen, Yuen Long, New Territories The entrance gate of San Wai (新圍), which literally means “new Historical walled village”,1 is situated in a local district known as Ha Tsuen (廈村) or Interest Ha Tsuen Heung (廈村鄉).2 Ha Tsuen was founded by two brothers, Tang Hung-chi (鄧洪贄) and Tang Hung-wai (鄧洪惠), both ninth generation members of the Ng Yuen Tso (五元祖) of the Tang (鄧) clan.3 As one of the oldest villages in Ha Tsuen, San Wai has a history of more than 250 years. It was established by Tang Tso-tai (鄧作泰, 1695 – 1756), an eighteenth generation member of the Ng Yuen Tso, and Tang Wai-yuk (鄧為玉, 1715 – 1755), a generation younger than Tso-tai. The village’s name “新圍” in Chinese and “San Wai” in English can be identified from a government report of 1899 and a land record of the then colonial government dating from 1905 to 1907. Regarding its layout, San Wai is composed of rows of houses, with an entrance gate. It is believed that the entrance gate was originally situated on the central axis of the village. As the village expanded, this central axis gradually lost its significance, and the view from the entrance gate was eventually blocked by rows of houses. A map dated 1917, which is the earliest record of its kind identified, shows that by that time two rows of houses had been built in front of the entrance gate.4 Interestingly, no shrine was built within San Wai, as villagers believe that the village is “protected” by the Earth God shrine near the Yeung Hau Temple (楊侯古廟), which is locally known as Sai Tau Miu (西頭廟, western temple). -
