WHY you ask? I think it is because of the near perfect water conditions, normally when we get the hot weather this time of year the water goes out of shape...not this year and there is no commercial fishery at the mouth. The run is actually below the 10 year average. See Tyee Test Fishery numbers below. Note: Skeena river is dirty but dropping and cleaning right now hopefully, with this better weather, it will be fishable by the weekend. In the meantime boats have formed the famous "Hog Line" this is where the clean water of the Kalum meets up with the dirty water of the Skeena. Chinook are in the Kitimat and Kalum Rivers! Skeena Sockeye are coming in now but NOT the big numbers that were expected. Note: NEW section added called Recommended Fly Fishing Gear. Pic taken June 28th How to read this webpage: Scroll down to read ALL the Current updates in Red highlighted in Yellow The most up-to-date reports are DATE STAMPED (Example: Tue July 11/11) So when you scroll through the report look for these markers. Skeena River: Skeena River is divided into four sections: Skeena 1 (non-classified) Exchamsiks River downstream to the ocean. Skeena 2 (class 2 water) Exchamsiks River upstream to 1.5 km above Kalum River. Skeena 3 (non-classified) 1.5 km above the Kalum River upstream to 1.5 km above Zymoetz River. Skeena 4 (class 2 water) 1.5 km above Zymoetz River upstream to the head-waters. Water is cleaning up. I have report of some outstanding Chinook fishing near Terrace. Sockeye fishermen are starting to show up on Ferry Island with some decent catches. I have reports of Chinook landed on Ferry Island. You can also try fishing the clean water of the trib rivers such as Kasiks and Exchamsiks. These spots, below the highway 16 bridges, are open for Chinook. Above the bridges it is closed. NEW just got a report fishing and camping at China bar is in full swing and Chinook being caught, even heard of a Steelhead landed. You may want to consider hiring a guide to learn how?
