HUNTINGTONS IN AMERICA~ DIANE ELIZABETH HUNTINGTON - FAMILY MEMBERS - HUNTINGTON ICONS OF AMERICA ~ • Published on November 1, 2018

Samuel Huntington, Signer of the Declaration of Independence was my sixth great-uncle, considered by some to be the first President of the . He was appointed to the position of King's attorney for the colony of . Nine years later, Samuel's conscience made him resign from this post and turn his back on what might have been a bright and comfortable future in the employment of the King. Little did he know at the time the Huntington's and Royal Family would merge in marriage. My great, great, great, grandmother, Caroline Cornelia Streit, second cousin to Queen Victoria married Collins Hickox Huntington on May 30, 1836 in Frelighsburg, P.Q., Canada. Her father Dr. Abram Freligh founded Frelighsburg. https://www.jud.ct.gov/lawlib/history/samhuntington.htm

Collis Potter Huntington, American railroad magnate who promoted the ’s extension across the West, making possible the first transcontinental railroad in 1869. https://www.britannica.com/biography/Collis-P-Huntington

The other two photos in the header are Arabella Duval Yarrington "Belle" Huntington (c.1851– 1924) who was the second wife of American railway tycoon and industrialist Collis P. Huntington, and then after the death of Collis P., became the second wife of his nephew, Henry Edwards Huntington. Although she married Collis P. with a young son Archer it was often speculated he was Collis P. Huntington's biological son.

Archer made enormous educational, arts, and cultural contributions to America and the world. http://hispanicsociety.org/about-us/history/archer-huntington/ He also married an incredible American sculptor and icon in the art world. https://www.britannica.com/biography/Anna-Hyatt-Huntington

Henry Edwards Huntington, https://www.britannica.com/biography/Henry-E-Huntington better known as Railroad Magnate, the Henry E. , http://www.huntington.org/ and Huntington beach married his uncle Collis P.'s widow, Arabella Duval Yarrington "Belle" Huntington who became his second wife. Married to Henry Edwards Huntington Arabella was known as the force behind the art collection installed at the Huntington Library. She was also touted as being the richest woman in America who seemed to invest her wealth in a way that many in America and the world have enjoyed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabella_Huntington

Sarah Elizabeth Huntington, my great, great grandmother (below photo, far right), and daughter of Cornelia Streit Huntington, my great, great, great grandmother (not in photo), and second cousin to Queen Victoria. The bottom photo is my great grandmother, Pauline Huntington.

The Huntington Sisters! Daughters of Pauline Huntington and granddaughters of Sarah Elizabeth in photo above. My grandmother (on left), Elizabeth and Charlotte Huntington. In days of old to preserve the maternal name it passed down as a middle name often to the eldest daughter, in this case Charlotte Huntington.

My hope after living a lifetime again, never knowing any of the above profound history is to create some variation of a theme, on a program described in my personal statement/research proposal for the University of York. Through DNA, genealogy, history, lineage this world is ever closer to understanding how connected we all are beginning with one common ancestor in Africa. We are One Race - One World.

This is one of Anna Hyatt Huntington's incredibly beautiful contributions of art to the world. https://www.brookgreen.org/american-sculpture
