Upstream from Banjarmasin, Barito river divides into two branches, one of which meets the Kapuas river slightly further to the west, to form the Kapuas Murung estuary. This programme is designed to increase knowledge about the physical and sedimentolo gical processes, physical and chemical properties of the soils, and hydrological and chemical parameters of the Barito estuary. Barito estuary was chosen for two main reasons. First, it constitutes an important waterway for the region, on which Banjarmasin harbour is located; second, the management of the sparsely occupied coastal areas is becoming a priority. The transmigration area of Tabunganen, close to the coast (with sorne saline intrusion problems) is significant in this connection. -

The economic value of the river has been reported very high. Rivesr is a habitat for numerous fishes which area important for local people along rivers. Rives also provide corridor for people movement. Rivers also place for economic activity. Floating market is a market located at rivers with traditional trader and seller equipped by traditional boat called Jukung. Along the Barito River, floating market point found in two place, Muara Quin and Lok Baitan. Fruit and vegetables are become the mains items in traditional floating market in Lok Baitan. Floating market has its special value for tourism attractions. Continued decrease of youngest generation to the river-based culture economic activity has been the central aspect of the future of floating market. This situation is different for modern market, which is interested among young generation in south Kalimantan. Abstract. Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is one of the public health problems that is still found in Indonesia. This disease always occurs repeatedly due to failure of vector control. Indonesia is the second largest country among 30 countries endemic to DHF. This disease can cause death especially in children. In Sungai Paring Village, January- December 2017, 2 cases of DHF were found. The purpose of this study was to find out the House Index (HI), Countainer Index (CI), Breteau Index (BI), larva free numbers (LFN) , Density Figure (DF) and larvae positive container types. This research is a type of descriptive survey research with total sampling technique. The population in this study were households and containers in the Paring Sungai Martapura Sub-District. The sample in this study was all water reservoirs in 100 respondent's houses. Of the 100 houses surveyed there were 40 positive larvae (HI 40%), 60% ABJ, 41 larvae positive containers from 356 examined containers (CI 11.52%) and positive larvae containers namely, ceramic bath 3 (0.84% ), 1 cement bath (0.28%), 18 used paint buckets (5.06%), 4 large bucket buckets (1.12%), 3 ablutions (0.84%) and 6 plastic drums (1.70%). -

Yani Km. 4,5, Banjarmasin, Indonesia Keywords: Hitung Bini, Ethno-mathematics, Arithmetic Operation Abstract: Banjarese elders who had never attended either formal or non-formal schools have implemented relatively unique arithmetic operation. The arithmetic operation does not use calculators nor writing tools but can produce a quick and precise calculation. This kind of arithmetic operation is commonly used in everyday life and well-known as hitung bini. This study aimed to describe hitung bini as one of ethno-mathematics found in Banjarese cultures then analyze it from mathematics viewpoints. This study used explorative method with qualitative approach. The data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation. The findings of the study obtained that hitung bini operation actually conforms to formal arithmetic procedures in math which includes place value rules and basic arithmetic operation properties such as commutative, associative, distributive, identity and inverse. 1. Birds of the Negara River Basin, South Kalimantan, Indonesia
BIRDS OF THE NEGARA RIVER BASIN, SOUTH KALIMANTAN, INDONESIA by Bas van Balen & Crawford Prentice (Received 19 February 1996) KUKILA 9: 81-107 Summary In January 1989 the wetlands of the Negara and lower Barito river basins (South Kalimantan) were surveyed in order to assess their importance for the conservation of birds. In particular during the last twenty years, logging, reclamation for agriculture and uncontrolled hunting under a growing human population have caused the degradation of these once very rich habitats and subsequently the drastic impoverishment of its bird communities. A total of less than 150 bird species was found. The bird communities of eight habitat types are described. Recommendations are given for the urgent conservation of areas selected amongst the little that is left. Introduction The lower Barito and Negara river basins were reported to sustain extensive freshwater swamps and, comprising c 480,000 ha, considered floristically the most important of their kind in Kalimantan (Scott 1989). In the 1970s the wetlands, which boast a wide variety ofwaterbirds, were considered as almost certainly the richest in Kalimantan (Holmes & Burton 1987), but detailed surveys to investigate their ornithological significance and to determine possible reserve boundaries had not been carried out. Reclamation schemes and drainage projects, commercial logging, and intensive traditional use (fishing, reed cutting and bird trapping) in the marginal areas have undoubtedly a significant impact on the natural ecosystem. Despite the serious degradation of the habitats, a bird survey was considered worthwhile. An inventory of the avifauna of the swamps was conducted by the authors in the period 9 26 January 1989. -

Holocene sediments of the lower Barito basin have been reclaimed for agricultural purposes. On Martapura river sediments, stable agricultural plots have been established which are not affected by severe acid toxicity problems: but on Barito river sediments, many plots have been abandoned because of such problems. To clarify the characteristics of the sediments of the lower Barito basin. boring observations were made along two transects on the Barito and Martapura river sediments. The fossil pollen composition, layering patterns, and the presence of sulfidic materials were used to identify the depositional environments of the sediments. This paper presents details of the succession of depositional environments on the Martapura river sediments and Barito river sediments, and demonstrates that the stable agricultural plots belong to a riverine environment, while the unstable agricultural plots belong to a brackish environment. I Introduction Southern Kalimantan has extensive swampy areas stretching from around Banjarmasin and Aluh-aluh in the south to around Amuntai in the north (Fig. 1). The sediments in these swampy areas constitute a part of what Kemmerling [1915J called Barito river basin sediments. -

Local Interventions Chapter Five Community Mapping, Tenurial Rights and Conflict Resolution in Kalimantan1 Ketut Deddy Introduction Conflicts over land and natural resources often occur where there are overlapping resource interests among groups, communities or states. These overlapping interests usually become clear when each party is asked to define their own boundaries. Disputes are mainly related to tenure, which `determines who can (and can't) do what with the property in question and under which circumstances they can (or can't) do it' (Lynch and Alcorn 1994: 373±4). Property is defined as `a bundle of rights' (Bruce 1998: 1) and responsibilities (Lynch and Alcorn 1994: 374), which can be held by a state, a corporation, an organisation, a family, an individual or a community. These rights, which are complex and often overlap, have spatial, temporal, demographic and legal dimensions. In Indonesia, conflict over land usually arises between indigenous communities and the state (Ruwiastuti 1997: 55) because state-created property rights overlap with customary (adat) rights. This is often the case when conflict arises between the holders of timber concessions and members of indigenous communities. Timber concession holders use state forestry laws and maps to define and claim their rights, while indigenous communities claim that customary (adat) rights entitle them to stake ownership over the land that their ancestors have long lived on. ON THE WALLABY 2020 PART 2 KALIMANTAN (9 to 12 February) We had to anchor well off shore because of the shallow waters at the mouth of the Sekenyer River that was our access to the orangutan rehabilitation station at Pondok Tanggui. The Sekonyer is quite a sizeable river and provides access to a number of industries upstream including palm oil and forestry. We headed off in Xplorer and turned off the main channel into a tributary lined solidly with Nypa palm. We reached a landing where there were a number of local Klotok river boats waiting to take us on to our destination. These Klotoks are designed for tourist comfort with toilets and plenty of room to move around. Their crews probably live onboard. As we proceeded further upstream the Nypa gave way to a form of Pandanus that grows in the water and eventually that began to give way to forest trees. Our local guide spotted an Orangutan in the forest beside the river so we stopped to catch sight of our first wild ape. It was a mature female and, though somewhat hidden in the forest we managed to get a good sighting. She was having a feed on the leaves of the forest shrub beside her. Much excitement on board! We arrived at the landing for Pondok Tanggui and walked several hundred metres to the feeding station in the forest in very hot and humid conditions. The rangers went into the forest and started calling the Orangutans that usually come to the feeding station when they have not been able to get sufficient wild food, or just wanted a free feed.
