WELCOME TO GOMERSAL CRICKET CLUB This booklet has been produced to help both parents and players gain maximum enjoyment from membership of Gomersal Cricket Club. The club’s primary aim is to provide opportunities for young people from the age of eight years to receive quality coaching and competition in cricket. The instructions for players and parents/carers are particularly important. Following them will help you, your fellow players and everyone associated with the club benefit from the “Gomersal CC Experience”. Please read through this booklet and keep it for reference. Gomersal Cricket Club was successfully awarded ‘Club Mark’ standard in March 2014. Club Mark is a national accreditation awarded by the ECB in conjunction with Sport England which acknowledges that the club will comply with a set of quality standards, in terms of club administration, the playing & cricket practice programme, our duty of care and child protection, sports equity and ethics and general club management. All Coaching is by qualified coaches who have been screened for their suitability to be working with young people. We are extremely proud of the progress made with our Junior and Youth sections of the club. We are particularly grateful to all those who have helped out in whatever way the can. The Junior and Youth teams all have a dedicated band of coaches. The club currently has teams at Under 9’s, 11’s, 13’s and 15’s age groups and you will appreciate that running such a large sporting club is an expensive business. The General Committee of the club work hard to continue to develop fundraising programme to help secure our income. This includes grant aid and sponsorship. All age groups are expected to give their full support to these activities and we expect full participation from all parents. If you feel that you can volunteer for anything that will help us run the club better or more effectively please let us know. We are always looking for new members to join the committee. The Gomersal CC Junior section appreciate any amount of sponsorship money to help fund the club teams. If you are interested in sponsoring a team(s), match (£10) or a match ball (£5), please inform a Group Manager or Coach. Indeed we want to seek your views on all facets of the club and if there is anything you would like to say, please seek out any member of the junior section committee. Everyone concerned with the management of Gomersal Cricket Club is anxious that all members derive maximum benefit from being a part of the “Gomersal CC Experience” and are always seeking to improve what we offer. Your contribution and your opinions are important to us. Finally, we are very lucky to have excellent club facilities. Parents please take advantage of the club facilities and we look forward to seeing you in the bar. WHAT WE WANT TO ACHIEVE AT GOMERSAL CRICKET CLUB Our mission is to provide a safe and secure environment in which young people can participate in cricket so enabling the development of their physical and social skills. Above all we want the game of cricket to be enjoyed by all those who participate in it. Cricket is a fast dynamic and extremely physical sport and as such and participant must have a desire to play and enjoy the game, please do not force young people to play cricket if the do not wish to. Do not as parents try and live your cricket through your child. We also want to provide the infrastructure through which players can progress to Heavy Woollen, Schools, Yorkshire, ECB selection and professional club selection. 3. INFORMATION FOR PARENTS / CARERS Welcome to Gomersal Cricket Club. You are as welcome here as your children are. You can join the club as a member either individually or with a family membership. Whichever way you choose you will enjoy being a part of your cricket club. Please read the “Instruction to players” section carefully. Two points which you must note: Only paid up members can play & kit is only lost if it is unnamed. To get the most of your child’s experience at Gomersal Cricket Club you can volunteer to help in some way or other. The more volunteers we have the less there is for everyone else to do. Here are some important areas where help is always wanted: Transport to away matches. Catering for home games both before the game and after. Support and encourage your child as well as their team. Help the age Group Manager/Coach in the cricket ground preparation on match day. DO NOT JUST DROP AND GO. Gomersal Cricket Club is not a crèche. Ensure that your child is at the cricket practice ground / changing rooms and then inform the Coach of where and when you are to collect your child. I would like to take this opportunity to stress that you should at all times make arrangements for your child to travel to and from cricket practice sessions and matches. Players should arrive promptly. Also, you are responsible for collecting them at the end of each session, if they are not making their own way home. If for any reason you are going to be late picking your child up, please contact the relevant Coaching staff and let them know. You are required to complete the accompanying club membership registration form and Parental Consent form. For the safety of your child it is important that the Club is informed of all existing medical conditions and / or allergies diagnosed to your child. Medical Conditions Ensure you fill the medical forms in fully and inform your coach of any variances that occur to these during the year. If we are aware we can take the appropriate action. Please note: Any fines received by the club due to breaches of our code of conduct by parents or spectators from outside agencies, playing leagues or governing bodies are the responsibility of the offending person. Failure to accept responsibility for such fines will result in the suspension of the players concerned. The Executive reserves the right to impose further disciplinary measures against offending individuals. 3 GOMERSAL CRICKET CLUB JUNIOR MEMBERS HANDBOOK 2017 Fixtures A fixture list will be issued at the start of each season. These dates and locations are subject to change. Keep an eye on the notice board. The team selection for cricket games and travel arrangements will be posted on the club notice board. It is the player/parents responsibility to check if you have been selected to play. Never travel directly to away matches without first informing your child’s Coach / Group Manager. Attendance Group Managers/ Coaches will maintain an attendance register. Regular attendance helps both the team and the coach, but most importantly helps your child to progress. If your child cannot attend let the coach know. Do not let your child play if they are carrying an injury. If in doubt, ask. Bad Weather If you feel that the weather will cause either cricket practice or a match to be postponed please phone your child’s coach to check. Do not travel to an away match without checking you may have a wasted journey. Suggestions and comments Many parents / carers may have ideas that will help the club progress. Don’t keep them under your hat – tell any committee member. They will listen! If you have lots of ideas – then join the committee! Your club needs you! Sponsorship There are always sponsorship opportunities for individuals or companies. See a committee member if you or your company are able to sponsor any part of the club. 4 GOMERSAL CRICKET CLUB JUNIOR MEMBERS HANDBOOK 2017 4. GOMERSAL CRICKET CLUB JUNIOR SECTION RULES Gomersal Cricket Club has a separate constitution concerning the governance and articles of association of the whole club. We hope that this additional set of rules will provide a good guide to how we want the Junior section of the club to be run. We are sure parents/guardians and children alike will benefit from adhering to them. Gomersal Cricket Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all its members. The club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators, volunteers and parents associated with the club should, at all times, Show respect at all times Be encouraged to be open and honest at all times And to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club initially with the Junior Cricket Committee. The next stage would be the Senior Cricket Committee and then the General Committee. As a member of Gomersal Cricket Club you are expected to abide by the following junior club rules: All members must play cricket within the laws and in the spirit of the game. All members must respect umpires and their decisions. Do not show dissent. Do not throw tantrums or cricket bats. Such behaviour will not be tolerated by the Group Managers & Coaches. All members must respect colleagues, opponents and officials. Do not make derogatory comments or gestures about your colleagues or opponents. Never try to intimidate the opposition by threats or excessive triumphalism. Members should keep to agreed timings for cricket practice and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are not able to attend or that they are going to be late.

    Our ref: 2387/21 Figures for incidents of drink spiking in your region over the last 5 years (year by year) I would appreciate it if the figures can be broken down to the nearest city/town. Can you also tell me the number of prosecutions there have been for the above offences and how many of those resulted in a conviction? Please see the attached document. West Yorkshire Police receive reports of crimes that have occurred following a victim having their drink spiked, crimes such as rape, sexual assault, violence with or without injury and theft. West Yorkshire Police take all offences seriously and will ensure that all reports are investigated. Specifically for victims of rape and serious sexual offences, depending on when the offence occurred, they would be offered an examination at our Sexual Assault Referral Centre, where forensic samples, including a blood sample for toxicology can be taken, with the victim’s consent, if within the timeframes and guidance from the Faculty for Forensic and Legal Medicine. West Yorkshire Police work with support agencies to ensure that all victims of crime are offered support through the criminal justice process, including specialist support such as from Independent Sexual Violence Advisors. I’m not sure which towns they cover; I don’t think Leeds will come into it very much. It’ll be heavy woollen industry, Huddersfield, Halifax, Bradford, that sort of area, and each little town would have a distinct characteristic, wouldn’t it? JK Well, I had an unusual link with those towns because as I mentioned I helped to form a cycling club in ’38. The background was in those days of course that I was a Roman Catholic. Now we had to go to Church on Sunday, and the problem was that the average cycling club, their times for starting runs were not geared to church services at all. So it meant that if we wanted to take up serious cycling we’d to spend half of Sunday morning chasing the club which had set off an hour earlier. So some of us got together and we formed our own club in Leeds. The essential part was we went to Church together and then we set off. Now some of the clubs had been started in Lancashire, so we tried to spread our activity and we did eventually have clubs in the heavy woollen district, in Bradford, Sheffield, Halifax, Huddersfield and so on, and in ’38 and ’39 it was one of my jobs for the national organisation that was being to developed to encourage parishes or groups of interested cyclists in these towns to develop their own club.

For the Council’s benefit, Persimmon controls the whole of the site and subject to the removal of policy constraints is immediately available for development. In these representations we demonstrate that the site is a sustainable location for housing growth, and that there are no insurmountable technical constraints which would prohibit the delivery of housing at the site. The Site The site is situated east of Moor Lane and west of Moor Park Gardens. The land has not been identified within the draft Kirklees Local Plan, however lies east of rejected site option H315. The land in question is situated to the north of the M62. The site is currently defined within the UDP proposals map as Green Belt land. We have previously sent written reps to the Council for the lands inclusion within the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA).
