Lord God, Master of everything visible and invisible! All the days and years of my life are dependent on Your holy will. Thank You, Merciful Father, that you have allowed me to live another year. I know that I am not worthy of this mercy but you give me this gift because of Your remarkable love for mankind. Please continue showering me with Your grace; allow me to continue my life in virtue, peace and health, at peace with my family, in agreement with all fellow human b eings and with the community to which I belong. Cleanse my conscience and teach me to live by Your rules. For there will be no peace in this world if peace does not start in my own soul. Teach me to see my fellow human beings as Your children and to be concerned with their wellbeing. Lord, please bless this coming year and all the days of my life. Amen. January 6th (19th) - The Feast of Theophany (Epiphany) This Feast Day is one of the greatest days of the Christian year. It ranks in importance with Christmas and Easter. In many parts of the world, this Feast Day is celebrated with more solemnity than Christmas itself. In English, we call this Feast Day "Epiphany" which means "appearance." On this day the Church celebrates the Baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River by St. John the Baptist (he is called "the Baptist" because he baptized Christ.) Epiphany Day is also called "Theophany" which means "God shows himself to us." On this day, the Holy Trinity was first revealed for all of humanity to know and believe. When Jesus Christ was baptized in the River Jordan, a voice was heard from God in the heavens above saying, "This is my Son in whom I am well pleased." A white dove, the symbol of the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus Christ the Son of God. So we have the Holy Trinity being shown to us on that day 2000 years ago. This is why we call this day the "day of illumination (light) and manifestation (appearance). The Holy Trinity made its appearance and we have been illuminated by this wonderful truth and blessing. Since the waters of the Jordan were blessed by the presence of Jesus Christ, it is a source of Divine Grace and blessing, and we bless ourselves and our homes with the waters. On the feast of Theophany - Epiphany the newly blessed water is taken home by the faithful to use during illness, danger, family prayers & other Christian rituals. Most Rev. Bryan Joseph Bayda, CSsR On Nov 9, 2019 Bishop Bryan Bayda, C.SS.R. (age 58), currently the Bishop of Saskatoon was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy of Toronto. For I am already on the point of being sacrificed; the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way; the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight”. John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And there went out to him all the country of Judea, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, and had a leather belt around his waist, and ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” Communion Hymn Praise the Lord from the heavens;* praise Him in the highest.* Alleluia, alleluia,* alleluia. Later that day, the coalition approved her Cabinet of Ministers, which she described as a team of profession- als prepared to undertake sweeping reforms. “I am happy that the democratic forces were able to return to government to install order in the country,” Ms. Tymoshenko told a press conference, adding “the government appointed today is highly professional and consists of experienced people who don’t have a conflict between business interests and their governing tasks.” With the rise of a new executive government, Ukraine is reset on a path toward adopting European standards, values and political structures, something that was attempted by Ms. Tymoshenko’s first government, which was installed by the Orange Revolution. • Pastoral Letter of the Ukrainian Catholic Bishops in Canada
PASTORAL LETTER OF THE UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC BISHOPS IN CANADA ON THE OCCASION OF THE RESURRECTION OF OUR LORD Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen! “And He granted us eternal life…” Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ! On that first Easter morning, the myrrh-bearing women went to the tomb of Our Lord to perform one more act of love: to complete the burial ritual–which was hastily performed owing to the approaching Sabbath–and to anoint Jesus’ body with aromatic spices. As they approached the tomb, suddenly “there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightening, and his clothing white as snow.... The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, he has been raised from the dead” (Matthew 28: 2-7). And we, in turn, this Easter cry out with joy over and over again, “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling death by death, and to those in the tombs giving life!” Life. New life. Resurrected Life. This is the day of the Resurrection. Christ, our God, has brought us from death to life, and from earth to heaven. He who is the author of life could not be contained by the chains of death. Christ descended into the realm of death, and broke the bonds of those held captive there.
