This is a vision from the company that makes the cars bearing the four-ring badge – a high- performance Avant for the luxury car class. Avantissimo: the name itself expresses the superlative element in this design study, which is a clear display of dynamism and luxury in a unique form. It has been given to a design study which, like the Avant concept itself, opens up a new dimension. Avant is the name for beautiful estate cars that reach equally high standards of dynamism and high-tech engineering. For more than ten years now, Audi has pursued a new path with its Avant models – one that adds an emotive element to pure logic. Dynamism is certainly not lacking in the power unit chosen for the Audi Avantissimo. The 4.2-litre V8 engine with ‘biturbo’ forced aspiration mobilises more than 316 kW (430 bhp) and endows the car with the performance of a supersport model.

  • Front Wheel Drive the Story of Pioneers of the Front Wheel Drive Motorcar
Front Wheel Drive The story of pioneers of the front wheel drive motorcar To most British motorists that think about such things, the Mini, was the beginning of the front wheel drive revolution. The revolutionary concept that was the Mini was it’s packaging. The packing of the engine, gearbox and final drive into a very compact unit, leaving sufficient space in a very small car for four people. The Mini didn’t start the front wheel drive revolution but the packaging revolution that has spread throughout the worlds motor industry. This was made possible because of the developments in front wheel drive technology that had gone on during the previous forty years, but until that time had been almost ignored by the British motor industry. The combination of front wheel drive and efficient packaging has revolutionised the world’s motor industry, being almost universally used, except were considerations of cost and or size are not important. This is the story of those years before the Mini and the pioneers of front wheel drive. From the Carriage to the Horseless Carriage For the thousands of years, from the time of their invention, wheeled vehicles were pulled from the front. This was because it was an inherently stable arrangement, it made steering easier and gave maximum control. This lasted as long as the foot was used to transmit the motive power to the road, but once the wheel was used to transmit the power of an onboard engine to the road the situation changed. This was due to the correct and universal understanding that the front wheels must be used for steering, and as it was so much simpler to drive the none steerable wheels, rear wheel drive became the accepted method used for the pioneer self propelled vehicle.

To mark the “Audi home race” in Nuremberg more than 100,000 visitors and many celebrity guests are expected – this and other interesting facts from the Audi camp before the most popular international race series’ season highlight. As already seen at the first two races of the 2009 season, Tom Kristensen once again advertises for the Audi brand’s 100th anniversary on his Audi A4 DTM at the Norisring. The Audi Drive Away – this weekend a cooperation between Sales & Marketing Germany and the Nuremberg based Feser Group – supports the festivities surrounding “100 Years Audi”: The parade consisting of thirty Audi A3 and A5 cabriolets, which takes to the track on Sunday shortly before the DTM race at 1:05 p.m., is led by a Audi Front UW Cabriolet from the year 1934. An exhibition on the subject “100 Years Audi” is offered to Audi Lounge guests. Rarities to be admired include a Horch 830 BL Pullmann Limousine from 1938. Edgar Friedrich, August Horch’s last apprentice, is guest in the Audi Lounge on Sunday. In contrast to the historic Horch, the technically innovative Audi R15 TDI is on show with which Dindo Capello, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish clinched third 1/3 position in the 24 Hours of Le Mans a fortnight ago.

In 1965, the company with the four rings, then still under the name of Auto Union GmbH, ended its era of two-stroke engines by bringing out a new model with a four-cylinder, four- stroke engine, which it called the Audi. Several of these first Audis after the Second World War will be making their way to the Danube Classic, being held around Ingolstadt. The annual program kicks off with the Techno Classica vintage car show in Essen (April 15 to 19). The motto of the Audi stand in Hall 7 will be “The open top – 80 years of Cabrios and Roadsters.” Here, Audi will be displaying icons from the 1930s – from the Audi Front 225 to the DKW F5 Roadster to the Wanderer W 25 K. Furthermore, enthusiasts will also be able to see the Auto Union 1000 Sp Roadster from the 1960s and an Audi TT of the first generation. 180,000 visitors are expected at the world’s largest classic car show in Essen.
