It was a great experience, and I had the opportunity to meet a lot of smart, enthusiastic, and very driven entrepreneurs. The one thing people always ask me is, “How did you get onShark Tank?” One day Mark Burnett, the producer, called me and said, “Hey, would you like to be a shark on Shark Tank?” And I said, “You know, I’ve been hearing pitches for many years, so it makes total sense for me.” Over the last 30 years, I’ve launched over 500 products with sales of over $5 billion worldwide. I also had a joint venture with the Home Shopping Network, was CEO of HSN Direct International, and a pioneer of the “As Seen on TV” industry, with over 1,000 products on TV and the internet. I did the first-ever infomercial and helped build several major brands on TV with people like Tony Little, Jack Lelane, the Jenners, Paris and Kathy Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Montel Williams, and even celebrity-branded artist 50 Cent’s headphones. I saw just about everything during those years, worked with a lot of celebrities, and created a few myself. So, that’s how I got on Shark Tank. ix x | CLICK AND GROW RICH As a serial entrepreneur and investor, I’ve personally invested in over 100 businesses, so I know a thing or two about what it takes to succeed. I also was happy to write the foreword of this book because I truly believe that what Daniel and Brett are teaching in this book is today’s “playbook” for success. The MP5MS2 Formula for Success that Brett and Daniel have developed and put together in this book can transform any type of entrepreneurial activity, new idea, or even a business that you already own into a much more profitable company and potentially into a real online money-making powerhouse. And if you’re just starting out, this book will help point you in the right direction for starting a business online with the greatest chance of success. Just follow the formula you’ll find in these pages. I’m glad to be personal friends with both Brett and Daniel because I learn things from them about the internet, making money online, and just business in general. They’re great guys, and I believe they are uniquely qualified to take you through the “Shark”-infested waters of building an online business. You’ll want to have an experienced guide who’s been there before, faced tough business challenges, and pushed through them. Both have seen their share of successes and big wins, as well as failures. You’ll want someone who’s experienced both to guide you, because that’s where the real lessons are learned. On Shark Tank, I always want to know if the entrepreneur can handle the setbacks and failures and still persevere. That’s the entrepreneur I would most want to bet on. I’ve always found that it’s best to learn from someone who’s already been there and made it happen. Brett and Daniel have generated tens of millions of dollars combined from prior businesses ventures, both online and offline, so these guys are the real deal and know what they’re talking about because they’ve done it. Twenty years ago, we sold a lot of physical products, like fitness systems and housewares. These days, it’s a much faster-paced environment. It’s a world of information products, digital downloads, and social media. It seems something new is coming out every day. Today people are creating and selling their own self-created content, from digital information products to downloadable software, and even having physical products made overseas on sites like alibaba.com that they then can sell Foreword | xi on Amazon for five, six, or even seven figures per month. It’s big business, and people are doing this, in some cases, with relatively little investment. It’s an age of people looking to create their own destiny, create their own freedom, and craft the lifestyle they want. It’s a very entrepreneurial environment out there right now. To offer some perspective, for us to make a million dollars from an infomercial back in the early days (even today), you would have to put up between a half a million to over a million dollars in production and media spend just to get it launched, with very little guarantee of success. Today, you see people doing this online or on social media with very minimal start-up investment. It’s a very different environment now that favors the entrepreneur and has really leveled the playing field. Social media platforms are so powerful these days that you can build a massive audience and come out with a product very easily. Some people are literally taking their cell phones and essentially shooting mini-infomercials and then simply posting them online. Seemingly overnight, they have hundreds of thousands of views and followers they are able to sell products to if they choose.
