"Collegiate Education in Risk Management and Insurance Globally: Past, Present and Future", by W. Jean Kwon The School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science, St. John's University, New York, U.S.A. E- mail: [email protected]

Prof. W. Jean Kwon, E.A.G. Manton Chair Professor in International Insurance and Risk Management and Director of the Center for the Study of Insurance Regulation has published a report titled, "Collegiate Education in Risk Management and Insurance Globally: Past, Present and Future." Jointly published by St. John's University and the International Insurance Society, this report provides a comprehensive analysis of collegiate education in risk management W. Jean Kwon and insurance from three perspectives. First, is a historic analysis that deals with the development of the education from the 19th century. Second, identifies, based in part of a survey of 116 institutions in 23 countries, academic and professional insurance programs globally. Third, offers recommendations for broader availability and higher quality of RMI education in the future. Several institutions partner with us for translation of the report into Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Portuguese, Serbia-Croatian, Spanish, Russian and possibly Arabic, Malay-Indonesian and French.

"Strategy and Culture Still Need Work", by Paul L. Walker, Ph.D., CPA James J. Schiro / Zurich Chair in Enterprise Risk Management Executive Director, Center for Excellence in ERM The School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science, St. John's University, New York, U.S.A. E- mail: [email protected]

Recent work coming out of the Center for Excellence in Enterprise Risk Management shows that companies are having trouble connecting the dots between strategy and risk. This is despite substantial other work that shows that strategic risks are frequently the largest value killers to companies and enhanced emphasis on enterprise risk management by rating agencies and regulators (e.g. recently, the SEC stated ERM was on its list of national examination priorities). Paul L. Walker Other work by the Center shows that companies must enhance the risk culture. After interviewing senior executives, CEOs, CFOs, and board members around the world, the study highlighted 9 elements that were key to improving risk culture. The study is available on the Web.
