This collection contains the personal letters, manuscripts, published poetry and prose, and photographs of John Gould Fletcher. Fletcher won the Pulitzer Prize for his "Selected Poems" in 1939. He is distinguished as the first poet from west of the Mississippi to receive this award and Arkansas' only Pulitzer Prize winning poet to date (1993). His writings available in the collection cover the period from 1913 to 1950.

A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, John Gould Fletcher was born January 3, 1886, the son of John Gould and Adolphine Krause Fletcher (Sr.). Educated in Little Rock, Andover, and Harvard, Fletcher traveled extensively in Europe and lived in England where he established himself as an Imagist Poet. He returned to Arkansas during the mid-thirties and in 1936 married children's author Charlie May Simon. They lived in their home "Johnswood" until his tragic death in 1950.
