Navigation You are here: Home › Minor­League Baseball › News › Snappers: We’re Working on New Downtown Beloit Ballpark Plan Snappers: We’re Working on New Downtown Beloit Ballpark Plan by Kevin Reichard on June 9, 2017 in Minor-League Baseball, News The Beloit Snappers (Low A; Midwest League) are working on a new downtown ballpark plan to replace Pohlman Field, reacting to the potential loss of the team when the MLB/MiLB PBA expires in coming years. That Pohlman Field does not meet current MiLB standards is no secret; the team has received waivers in recent years to continue play. And it’s also no secret that the team’s board of directors has been warned that the present situation cannot continue; the next MiLB/MLB agreement is unlikely to allow facilities to receive multiple and sequential waivers. The baseball front had been pretty gloomy in Beloit in recent years, but a March visit by MiLB President/CEO Pat O’Conner indicated optimism regarding the Snappers’ ballpark situation. And there’s more optimism now, where the Snappers’ board decided to pursue a new downtown ballpark. It will probably require some outside investment to make it happen, and the name of a prominent Double­A owner has been quietly talked about in MiLB circles. From the Beloit Daily News: “We reached an agreement and framed a resolution that we were going to pursue a downtown stadium,” [Team President Dennis] Conerton said. “We feel now the vibrancy and the momentum is downtown and we want to be a part of it. We’ve seen the excitement there. We received the endorsement of (Beloit) 2020 to become a part of the Fourth Street corridor project. We have a lot of things we need to build on.”… A new stadium is needed, but it doesn’t need to be one of the best in minor league baseball. It just has to meet the upcoming requirements. “It’s do or die time for us,” said Jim Agate, the Snappers’ stadium committee chairman and team vice president. “If the Snappers are going to stay in Beloit we have to do something. A facility like this downtown will bring so much more for our businesses. It can be a real key to attracting people to Beloit. We have to have things for people to do if we want to attract them.” Indeed. Downtown ballparks are very trendy these days, and while there are signs of growth in downtown Beloit in recent years, the hope is that a new ballpark can bring further growth.     FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 11, 2020 2020 INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE FIELD MANAGERS EIGHT IL CLUBS TO BE LED BY NEW SKIPPERS THIS SEASON When the International League's 137th season opens on April 9, eight of the circuit’s fourteen teams will have a new manager leading the quest to capture the coveted Governors’ Cup trophy. Only six managers return from the 2019 season, although several of the League’s new field generals bring pre-existing ties to their teams and communities. It is the first time since 2006 that more than half of the circuit’s clubs changed managers during an offseason. The reining IL Manager of the Year Damon Berryhill is the International League’s longest- tenured manager, preparing to begin his fourth season at the helm of the Gwinnett Stripers. Also hoping to get his team back to the postseason is Brady Williams, who took Durham to the finals in his first year with the Bulls in 2019. They will be challenged in the South Division by another returning manager in Norfolk, Gary Kendall. The 2018 IL Manager of the Year, Lehigh Valley’s Gary Jones, will lead the IronPigs once again this season. Like Jones, Brian Esposito in Indianapolis is also at the helm for the third straight campaign. IL Hall of Famer Billy McMillon will manage the Red Sox for the franchise’s final season at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket. Two men have found themselves moving from a coach’s role to the manager’s chair in 2020. Pennsylvania-native Doug Davis (former Syracuse manager) takes over in Scranton/Wilkes- Barre after three seasons coaching, while in Columbus, Ohio-native Andy Tracy is the new manager after helping lead the Clippers to the 2019 Governors’ Cup title as hitting coach.

Collegiate Summer leagues, semi-pro leagues, and all other non-professional leagues are excluded, but encouraged! The information herein was compiled from several sources including the Encyclopedia of Minor League Baseball (2nd Ed.), Baseball Reference.com, Wikipedia, official league websites (most of which can be found under the umbrella of milb.com), and a great source for defunct leagues, Indy League Graveyard. I have no copyright on anything here, it's all public information, but it's never all been in one place before, in this layout. Copyrights belong to their respective owners, including but not limited to MLB, MiLB, and the independent leagues. The first section will list active leagues. Some have historical predecessors that will be found in the next section. LEAGUE ASSOCIATIONS The modern minor league system traces its roots to the formation of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues (NAPBL) in 1902, an umbrella organization that established league classifications and a salary structure in an agreement with Major League Baseball.     Snappers Reach MOU Agreement For Future In Beloit Plan To Keep Professional Baseball In Stateline Area For Years To Come By / Beloit Snappers | September 4, 2018 "On Friday August 31, 2018 the Beloit Snappers signed a Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") with two sophisticated investor groups. These groups have strong ties to and leadership from Beloit and Rock County. This MOU under the rules of Minor League Baseball is confidential, and therefore neither the parties involved or the specific terms will be disclosed. This MOU meets a deadline set by Minor League Baseball and the Midwest League to make significant progress toward a new stadium in Beloit to meet the standards required by Major and Minor League Baseball for its affiliate clubs. However, there are a number of very important steps and formal legal documents required before the intent of the MOU to keep affiliated baseball in Beloit can be finalized. The MOU sets the framework for the sale of the Snappers to a new ownership group and the construction of a new stadium in downtown Beloit with an opening targeted for the 2020 season. The parties will work toward a January 31, 2019 deadline for the execution of definitive legal documents which can then be reviewed and acted upon by the Midwest League and Minor League Baseball, with final review and approval by the Commissioner of Major League Baseball. These approvals will be needed for the sale of the Snappers, as well as the plans for the new stadium, for the Snappers to continue play in the Midwest League. We also wish to congratulate our 2018 Snappers team who in very dramatic fashion made the 2018 playoffs and now will compete to become the champions of the Midwest League.

    Minor League Baseball Realignment Optimal Leagues by Distance and Affiliation Eli Katz, Steven Witkin, Anton Dahbura The Johns Hopkins University Department of Computer Science Baltimore, MD March 2020 Introduction As part of the Johns Hopkins Minor League Scheduling Research Team, we have accumulated several years of experience working with minor league presidents and minor league scheduling committees to optimize MiLB league schedules in the face of the complicated geographical and other league- and team-specific challenges. During our meetings with each league during the 2019 Baseball Winter Meetings in San Diego, we realized that while Major League Baseball (MLB) has been working on a recently revealed plan to realign Minor League Baseball (MiLB), it evidently has not considered the new logistical issues that are likely to be caused in the process of attempting to resolve existing issues, with the risk of having a new alignment of teams into leagues that does not meet the stated objectives of MLB. MLB has proposed eliminating 42 MiLB franchises to, among other goals, improve player health and welfare by reducing team travel throughout the MiLB season [1]. We therefore feel that it is extremely important to analyze the proposed plan as well as future realignment proposals to determine the optimal realignment of the remaining MiLB teams into leagues and to identify the advantages and disadvantages of such plans both on their own merits and in comparison to the current alignment scheme. Our main objective is to be conformant with the master structure of MiLB and the MLB plan, thereby creating an alignment of the four full-season levels of MiLB with 30 teams each in a configuration that reduces average travel for each team, while also minimizing the number of teams that would be forced to change levels.
