His background includes stops with the Wis- consin Timber Rattlers, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, and most recently as The Vice President of The Lansing Lugnuts. Malliet was the Midwest League Executive of the Year in 1995 as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers went on to win the Bob Freitas Award as the most outstanding Minor League Organization. Malliet is noted as a new ballpark and organization builder. He has taken four organizations from the ground up and built them into some of the most suc- cessful Minor League baseball operations in the country. The Timber Rattlers and Pelicans remain two of the most successful organizations in all of Minor League Baseball. He was instrumental in the start-ups of the Wisconsin Tim- ber Rattlers, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Joliet Jackhammers, and the Nor- mal CornBelters of the Frontier League. While with the Timber Rattlers, Steve was instrumental in helping them open Fox Cities Stadium in 1995. During his most recent stop with the Lansing Lugnuts Steve helped ink a stadium naming agreement with Jackson National Life Insurance in the face of a pandemic. kingfish vs. bobbers recap In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic threw a curveball at Northwoods League Play. The Kingfish’s season seemed improbable, and players who traveled from all across the country had to consider heading home. When all hope in a sea- son seemed lost, a new idea emerged to the surface. The Madison Mallards agreed to play in Kenosha for the summer under a name that would be chosen by means of a “Name the Team” contest. Several ideas were submitted, but the name that rose to the top was “K-Town Bobbers,” which was submitted by Jacob Gunderson, and the rest is history. The Bobbers were featured in the 26-game Kenosha Series which started on July 15, 2020 as a part of the North- woods League “Pod” system of play. With fan safety regulations put in place, Historic Simmons Field hosted NWL baseball between Wednesdays and Sundays from July 15 through August 22. The limited crowd, which could not exceed 25% capacity, watched the Kingfish dominate the Bobbers for the majority of the season. The series concluded with the Kenosha Kingfish finishing 17-9, and being crowned the 2020 Northwoods League Regional Champions. The regional trophy can be seen on display in the American Outfitters Team Store. game preview Kingfish staff The Kenosha Kingfish (3-1) take on the Traverse City Pit Spitters (4-0) Fri- day, June 4 at 6:05 p.m. at Historic Simmons Field. The Swing that Rewrote HISTORY 40 years later, Hank Aaron’s feat stands the test of time By Adam DeCock he Braves April 8th home opener marked more than just the the Boston Red Sox, then spent the majority of his well-documented start of the baseball season this year. Cincinnati Reds Press Clippings November 21, 2012 CINCINNATI ENQUIRER Pitching is pricey, transactions By John Fay | 11/20/2012 12:17 PM ET Want to know why the Reds would be wise to lock up Homer Bailey and Mat Latos long-term? The Kansas City Royals agreed to a three-year deal with Jeremy Guthrie that pays him $5 million on 2013, $11 million in 2014 and $9 million in 2015. He went 8-12 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. Bailey went 13-10 with a 3.68 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. Latos went 14-4 with a 2.48 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. It’s a bit apples and oranges: Guthrie is a free agent; Bailey is arbitration-eligible for the second time, Latos for the first. But the point is starting pitching — even mediocre starting pitching — is expensive. SIX ADDED: The Reds added right-handers Carlos Contreras, Daniel Corcino, Curtis Partch and Josh Ravin, left-hander Ismael Guillon and outfielder Yorman Rodriguez to the roster in order to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. Report: Former Red Frank Pastore badly hurt in motorcycle wreck By dclark | 11/20/2012 7:55 PM ET The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin is reporting that former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Frank Pastore, a Christian radio personality in California, was badly injured Monday night after being thrown from his motorcycle onto the highway near Duarte, Calif. From dailybulletin.com’s Juliette Funes: A 55-year-old motorcyclist from Upland was taken to a trauma center when his motorcycle was hit by a car on the 210 Freeway Monday night.

  • 2020 International League Field Managers Eight Il Clubs to Be Led by New Skippers This Season
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 11, 2020 2020 INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE FIELD MANAGERS EIGHT IL CLUBS TO BE LED BY NEW SKIPPERS THIS SEASON When the International League's 137th season opens on April 9, eight of the circuit’s fourteen teams will have a new manager leading the quest to capture the coveted Governors’ Cup trophy. Only six managers return from the 2019 season, although several of the League’s new field generals bring pre-existing ties to their teams and communities. It is the first time since 2006 that more than half of the circuit’s clubs changed managers during an offseason. The reining IL Manager of the Year Damon Berryhill is the International League’s longest- tenured manager, preparing to begin his fourth season at the helm of the Gwinnett Stripers. Also hoping to get his team back to the postseason is Brady Williams, who took Durham to the finals in his first year with the Bulls in 2019. They will be challenged in the South Division by another returning manager in Norfolk, Gary Kendall. The 2018 IL Manager of the Year, Lehigh Valley’s Gary Jones, will lead the IronPigs once again this season. Like Jones, Brian Esposito in Indianapolis is also at the helm for the third straight campaign. IL Hall of Famer Billy McMillon will manage the Red Sox for the franchise’s final season at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket. Two men have found themselves moving from a coach’s role to the manager’s chair in 2020. Pennsylvania-native Doug Davis (former Syracuse manager) takes over in Scranton/Wilkes- Barre after three seasons coaching, while in Columbus, Ohio-native Andy Tracy is the new manager after helping lead the Clippers to the 2019 Governors’ Cup title as hitting coach.
