BRITISH SINGER/SONGWRITER BIRDY RELEASES BREATHE EP EXCLUSIVELY IN THE U.S. SEPTEMBER 24th ON ATLANTIC RECORDS FEATURING THE GLOBAL SMASH “SKINNY LOVE” Critically-acclaimed British singer/songwriter Birdy has announced the release of her U.S.-only EP, BREATHE, out September 24th on Atlantic Records. BREATHE comes on the heels of Birdy’s globally successful self-titled debut album which was released in 2011. The EP features Birdy’s spine tingling rendition of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love”, a song that has been breaking the airwaves across the globe for the last few years. In addition the BREATHE EP features the recently released new track “Wings” which will also be featured on Birdy’s next full length album set for a Spring ’14 U.S. release. Since emerging onto the scene just two years ago, 17-year old Birdy (born Jasmine van den Bogaerde) has catapulted herself into a realm of pop stardom across the world and picked up many accolades along the way. Birdy’s first single, “Skinny Love” has reached gold certification in the UK and Ireland, platinum certification in Belgium, France and Switzerland, triple platinum in Holland and a ground-breaking five times platinum in Australia. Her follow-up singles ‘People Help The People’ and ‘1901’ again followed suit, selling hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide. From performing on the likes of shows such as Conan O’Brien and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, closing Holland’s and Germany’s finale of The Voice, selling-out three nights at the Sydney Opera House to performing at London’s Paralympic Opening Ceremony, it’s safe to say that Birdy has been building her career to great heights. The singer wrote ‘Just A Game’ for the official soundtrack to box office smash The Hunger Games last year, where she worked with the legendary T Bone Burnett and also featured on the song ‘Learn Me Right’ with Mumford & Sons for the Pixar film Brave. She’s now reached over 1.1 million likes on her Facebook and over an astonishing 138 million views on her official YouTube channel. Birdy’s self-titled, UK gold-certified debut album shot straight to #1 in Australia, Belgium, Holland and France upon its release in 2011 and debuted in the Official Top 20 in the UK. The album featured her unique interpretations of songs by much-loved artists of the singer such as Bon Iver, Cherry Ghost, Phoenix, The National and The xx. The album also featured one of Birdy’s self-penned songs ‘Without A Word’. Over the past year, Birdy’s been in the studio collaborating with some of the biggest names in the business including Ryan Tedder (Beyonce), Dan Wilson (co-wrote and produced ‘Someone Like You’ for Adele), Rich Costey (Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Sigur Ros) and Ben Lovett from Mumford & Sons, whom she’s collaborated with in the past. The offer was available for three months, after which the band released and commercialized the album, both digitally and in CD. In this paper, we use weekly music sales data in the US between 2004-2012 to examine the effect of Radiohead’s unorthodox strategy on the band’s al- bum sales. We find that Radiohead’s PYOP offer had no effect on the subsequent CD sales. Interestingly, it yielded higher digital album sales compared to a traditional release.

Spain [email protected] ABSTRACT The music for the animation cinema is closely linked with the characters’ movement and the narrative action. This paper presents the Temporary Semiotic Units (TSU’s) proposed by Delalande, as a multimodal tool for the music analysis of the actions in cartoons, following the tradition of the Mickey Mousing. For this, a profile with the applicability of the nineteen TSU’s was applied to the fourteen Pixar movies produced between 1995-2013. The results allow us to state the convenience of the use of the TSU’s for the music comprehension in these films, especially in regard to the subject matter and the characterization of the characters and as a support to the visual narrative of this genre. SPURGEON, AT THE METROPOLITAN TABERNACLE, NEWINGTON. “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:14. THE Christian’s life is no child’s play. All who have gone on pilgrimage to the celestial city have found a rough road, sloughs of despond and hills of difficulty, giants to fight and tempters to shun. Hence there are two perils to which Christians are exposed—the one is that under heavy pressure they should start away from the path which they ought to pursue—the other is lest they should grow fearful of failure and so become faint-hearted in their holy course. Both these dangers had evidently occurred to David and in the text he is led by the Holy Spirit to speak about them. “Do not,” he seems to say, “do not think that you are mistaken in keeping to the way of faith. Do not turn aside to crooked policy. Do not begin to trust in an arm of flesh, but wait upon the Lord.” And, as if this were a duty in which we are doubly apt to fail, he repeats the exhortation and makes it more emphatic the second time, “Wait, I say, on the Lord.” Hold on with your faith in God. Persevere in walking according to His will. Let nothing seduce you from your integrity—let it never be said of you, “You ran well, what did hinder you that you did not obey the truth?” And lest we should be faint in our minds, which was the second danger, the psalmist says, “Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart.” There is really nothing to be depressed about.
