This time was 12 noon: There was several riders that were swearing using the "f" and "n" words consistantly. The bus driver heard it an warn them twice that they were to stop using such language immediately. The bus bus driver was black. The riders were also black. (I am white). I personally am asking for this bus should be reconized, commented, given a big raise, and given a supervisor position! That kind of language should NOT be tolerated or used by ANYONE! If I was the driver, I would have gone one step further and asked them to leave the bus! Please, reward her! Please reply. Thank you. Deb Parrish noticed the Board of Directors were sitting at different seats and it was difficult to remember where they sat. Ms. Parrish asked the Board to vote yes on the Redi-Ride. Ms. Parrish acknowledged CATA for selling the trolleys. Mike Beech, ATU VP, gave a report on the fund raiser food drive from the previous weekend. III) CHAIR'S COMMENTS Mr. Triplett informed the Board that last night the sewer lines near the CTC were accidently bored into and cause some major problems. Mr. Triplett wanted to thank Brad for having great relationships with the city and for the good work in getting the situation under control. Page 1 of7 BOARD OF DIRECTORS Wednesday, May 15, 2019 IV) CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER'S REPORT Brad Funkhouser gave an overview of the sewer break. Mr. Funkhouser called Andy Kilpatrick and to let him know the construction team that caused the problem left the site. The subcontractor had intersected our pipe which caused immediate sewer backup. Andy Kilpatrick mobilized crews to come and fix the problem. Mr. Funkhouser was there until 1:30 a.m. We were able to move the buses around the site and not have disruption to service. We were able to handle it and open in the morning The Lansing mayor's cabinet met at CA TA on the 291h and did a tour after their meeting. Mr. Funkhouser also met with the representatives from Ward 2 and Ward 3, Adam Hussain and Jeremy Garza and gave them a tour as well. There was a meeting on Saturday. Good feedback. One lady said she pays City of Lansing and Ingham County taxes and gets nothing in return. MSU Grant - just found out that we have been selected as 1 of 3 for the grant. CATA has applied for the battery-electric bus grant (Low-No). Shelters - MSU is installed, but struggling with the vendor on the other shelters. We have to do it right and look great. Granicus - we get better and we assist you if you have questions. Our IT Director will assist you if you need any help. Last week CATA hosted a Job fair. Melanie Trowbridge, HR Director, noted that around 40-50 people stopped by the CATA table. Mr. Funkhouser noted that it will help us to broaden our workforce. CATA wants the best and brightest. Our Vice Chair, Doug Lecato, has represented us at APTA and now has been asked to be on the Board of Directors at APT A. APTA is our national lobbying firm and appreciate Doug Lecato's willingness to serve. Melanie Trowbridge has expanded the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) program for our employees. EAP offers our families confidential support, resources, and information for personal and work-life issues. Ms. Trowbridge is also working with the union to institute a nursing mother's policy. Nathan Triplett asked what is the next step with the autonomous vehicle grant. Brad said it is a long process and it is important to keep the union involved.
