White Mountains Rainy Day Fun

1. Learn more about the weather at the Observatory's Weather Discovery Center in North Conway.

2. Go shopping. The selection is great and it's tax- free.

3. Visit an art gallery. There are group galleries as well as roadside galleries where you can see artists at work.

4. Go antiquing. There are antique shops in virtually every town—and some terrific group shops, too.

5. Ride the rails - the Cog Railway, Hobo Railroad, the train at dark's Trading Post, or the Conway Scenic Railroad. A train ride can be just as much fun in the rain.

6. Or explore the world of model trains at the Hartmann Model RR and Toy Museum.

7. See a movie or attend a theatre production. Consult local papers for listings of what's on.

8. Visit a local library. Three of our favorites: the Abbie Greenleaf Library in Franconia, the Littleton Public Library and the North Conway Library.

9. Enjoy a long, relaxing lunch You can even combine it with a tour at the Mount Washington Hotel.

10. Attend a special event. Check listings in local papers such as the Mountain Ear or the Conway Daily Sun

11. Learn about our history at Heritage

12. Tour an historic mansion at Weeks State Park in Lancaster or at Castle in the Clouds.

13. Go ice skating at the Ham Ice Arena in Conway.

14. Visit Lost River Gorge or the Flume where the waterfalls are especially impressive in the rain. Whatever the weather, it's fun exploring Lost River.

15. Plan your next sunny day with a visit at the White Mountains Attractions Visitor Center in North Woodstock.

16. Write those postcards you never have time to take care of on sunny days!

17. Check your email. A number of businesses offer public internet access so you can send electronic postcards, too!

18. Take a drive - the views can be wonderful even in the rain!

19. See how many of the White Mountains' covered bridges you can find in a day.

20.Visit a waterfall. There are over 100 in the White Mountains region. (Be careful on the wet rocks
